Hailey Parrish is quick-witted, irreverent, and hasn’t had a date in three years. She only wanted an eBook reader because her collection of paperbacks threatened to take over her small living space. Little did she know that the "special offers" that prompted the purchase included much more than a reduced price in exchange for a few ads. The device came pre-loaded with the essence of Sebastian Kess, an erudite womanizer with magical abilities from a parallel dimension. When she inadvertently releases him and he inhabits her body, she finally has a man inside her, just not in the way she imagined. And soon her predicament introduces her to yet another supernatural, the handsome could-be-the-man-of-her-dreams Alex Sunderland. Can Alex and Hailey find a way to return Sebastian to his own body, stay one step ahead of the criminals who want to keep him where he is, and not lose their sense of humor?

Scientist by day, paranormal romance-urban fantasy author by night, M.L. Ryan has many stories rolling around in her head, and she finally decided to write some of them. She prefers literature that isn't saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue or worldly implications. She also doesn't like plots so reliant on love at first sight that it makes her feel like her head might implode. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and teenage son, four cats, two Curly Coated Retrievers and an adopted desert tortoise.

I think my Kindle is defective. It didn't come with a man. Maybe I should send it back.

The thing I loved the most about Special Offers was the characters…no the quirky humor…no the inventive storyline…I'll have to get back to you on that. Long story short, I loved this book. I knew from page one that I was going to like Hailey. First of all, she has this sarcastic wit going on. She made me laugh through the entire book. I loved being in her head. Second, she is a book hoarder, so I can relate to her. Hailey decided it was time for a Kindle because she didn't have room for any more books (I can sympathize). Only her Kindle came with a "special" special offer…in the form of a man. But, there is a catch – that man, Sebastian, wants to share Hailey's body.

Sebastian is so much fun. I loved having his commentary in the story, albeit inside Hailey's head. The banter between Sebastian and Hailey is hilarious. Alex is a sweet guy, and him and Hailey hit it off right away, which is good since they have to work together to get Sebastian out of Hailey's body.

This story was easy and entertaining, and the author's writing style made me a fan.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

You ever read a book so bad you almost convince yourself it was good and that you should buy the rest of the series to keep hate-reading? No...just me?
Let me think if I have anything positive to say. Um, the book's writing improves marginally once the actual plot began.
But it took forever to begin.
I think the story was trying to set Hailey up as just your average, chinchilla-milking divorcée doing her thing and going through life single. But what it does instead is give a play-by-play of every step she takes on her very boring day.
Case in point: she thinks about buying a Kindle. She researches Kindles. She weighs whether she wants to pay less and get the Kindle with advertisements. She decides they won't be so bad. The Kindle arrives. She decides the the advertisements aren't really that annoying--just as promised. She downloads Pride and Prejudice because it is free. She's delighted by the selection and quickly masters turning the page.
Are you asleep yet?
Now imagine that but multiply it times a bunch of pages.
It is so much telling.
Eventually, something exciting happens and she gets possessed by a horny alien's ghost. The horn alien's partner shows up and is conveniently hot. Our intrepid heroine also gets weirdly turned on by him being over a hundred. She frequently mentions that he has seen three centuries and I personally wonder if she realizes how long a century is.
Things...happen? Evil villains are evil. Crazy religious mother is crazy for no explainable reason except stupid tension.
I literally hated everyone and everything.
The end.

I hate giving bad reviews. It literally hurts my body and I feel like drinking a whole lot of hard liquor when I know I have to post a, dare I say, negative review.

However, reading this book was like forcing myself to color with my child. I know that might sound really mean to some of you but I hate to color. I can't think of anything more boring than having to sit and color for even fifteen minutes.

I couldn't find anything I liked about the characters. This book started out, via the blurb, with so much promise. I mean a supernatural theme about the 'special offers' on the Kindle releasing a 'spirit'. I was like YAY! I'm all over this.

Then I started to read it.

There was no tension, the characters were all one-dimensional cut outs that never latched onto me emotionally for me to care!

You can't scare, or impact a reader unless they really care about the characters.

It read like a college thesis paper. "She got out of bed. She put up on her shirt. She then put on her pants. She walked out of her room. Once she was out of the room she walked down the very long hallway..." You get where I'm going with this.

The writing didn't latch. There was no hook. Even when we are introduced to a really hot male character... yeah. He was boring too. I tried so hard. I pushed and marched on, hoping that I would be like, "Oh, there it is!" That just didn't happen and it was disheartening. I hate to say that the writing just wasn't 'pretty', but it wasn't. It was very blah and it jarred the reader from one scene to the next.

I understand that I am in the minority here. I did read all the other reviews, and it was one of the things that encouraged me to read this. This is purely taste. Not everyone connects with every writers voice, and I didn't connect with this one.

Most people seem to really enjoy this book.

It just appeared to not be my cup of tea.

Special Offers
M.L. Ryan

Before taking off for work Hailey Parrish decides to answer her emails. Just how dangerous can that be? Well, Hailey loves to read and she’s what you might call a book hoarder. Her shelves are filled with books and her ability to part with them non-existent. What better way to save money and conserve space then to do what so many others have done and purchase a Kindle eBook reader? Living in a confined space and barely making it over to the bathroom without having to climb over something, she decides to take the digital plunge and purchases one from Amazon. Special offers, how can she resist it, allowed her to buy one at a really reduced price in exchange for allowing them to place some ads? The kindle was delivered and her first book downloaded and then the fun and excitement begins. Imagine downloading a book, feeling an electric shock, your cat, namely her cat, starts to hiss at you and your life as you know will never be the same. As we get to know her getter and she starts to read her first book, Pride and Prejudice we enlighten the reader as to her true profession, her past and why this is probably the most exciting thing that has happened to her in quite some time. Hailey’s life appears to be boring, dull and mundane since her divorce. Dating is not in her horizon and dealing with anything but work and her few friends her primary venue for socialization. But, then things change as she begins to feel strange, oversleeps on the weekend, starts to put cream and sugar in her coffee and then decides to let her friends possibility introduce her to a new man. But, not before we learn more about what happened to her but for that we have to fast forward just a bit.

Downloading the book caused her fingertips to tingle, her body to feel weird and Hailey to sleep more hours than she ever did before. Going for a short run she bumps into a really hot guy not realizing that everything that would happen from now on was for a reason and definitely not by chance. So, when she’s home, reading and just trying to sort out her life, someone calls on her cell phone claiming she has called him before. Getting more annoyed each time he calls she does not realize there is more to this than she knows.

Deciding to meet her friends at a bar she encounters her runner and strikes up a conversation. But, when her friends beg off for different reasons something happens that sends her running from the bar and straight home. A voice in her head says he needs her help and she thinks she is losing her mind. Wouldn’t you?

Explanation you just won’t believe as the man in the bar or shall we say Alex Sunderland follows her home and enlightens her to just who he is and who the voice belongs to. Meet Sebastian Kess her new brain mate or voice mate who has no intention of leaving her mind or body any time soon or until they recover his old one and can place him back into it. Sebastian is what some might call a womanizer but one with magical powers just like Alex has. He now lives in her body and cannot leave. Imagine having a man inside your body but not in the normal sense. Listening to Alex’s explanation would have sent most running as far as they can go but not Hailey. A thug he was sent to arrest as our author relates through Alex ambushed Sebastian. He was mortally wounded and decided to test “his theories of convergence to stay alive.” That means entering another body.

Throughout this novel we meet her mother whose goal it is to make sure she feels guilty about not calling her, worried that she might become an old spinster and quotes religion to her in order to keep her pure. Forgetting that she’s divorced does not divert her mother from trying to teach her some old fashioned values. Find out what happens when she goes too far.

In order to remain alive because his laptop was broken and he could no longer receive data his next choice and only choice was the Kindle eBook reader. So, poor Hailey has to accept that she is possessed by a supernatural being, the being is trapped in her Kindle in order to avoid an outlaw who is a sociopath and hopes to someday or somehow rid herself of him. But, can she and Alex figure out how? But, to make matters more complicated or more hysterical no matter how hard Alex tries to channel his thoughts to get Sebastian to communicate with him he does not. He fails to achieve verbal communication and poor Hailey is now the one to relay his words and messages. Sounds interesting and really quite wild but there are much more.

Getting to know Sebastian is really quite interesting as he tries his best not to interfere with Hailey’s normal life and activities but really does not. So, how do you deal with a spirit that thinks you are hot? With the encouragement of her friends Rachel and Daniel they hope she will click with Alex but how does she tell them he’s not really all human? When Sebastian decides to create some uncomfortable moments for Hailey at home you have to laugh, give her credit for setting the ground rules and wonder if you ever really want them to separate because she’s more interesting with him inside of her.

Working became more interesting with Alex there working on the computer and improving their record keeping system. Then, one phone call could change it all as someone claims to know the whereabouts of Sebastian’s body. But, the end result would be they had to leave her house, make their way without anyone knowing where they were going because someone was on to them and Hailey was in danger. Traveling by plane, car and meeting Alex’s Courso friends would enlighten Hailey, bring her closer to Alex, let her in on certain secrets and create a bond among the three of them that just might never break. As Hailey allows herself to reveal her past to Alex, spends time with his friends and then might actually be able to separate from Sebastian the reader learns more about Alex, his life and his feelings for Hailey. Scenes that are quite touching others that are hilarious the reader can’t wait to find out will happen if they ever find Sebastian’s body and if it will ever be returned to him. What happens when they enter the hideaway of the person who took his body? What about Sebastian will he be able to protect Hailey?

When they find Sebastian’s body what happens places all of them in danger and the final result will change things for everyone. Just how this all ends and will everyone return to their rightful bodies or will someone else need to borrow and essence to stay alive before all is said and done? Loyalty, trust, friendship and definitely a unique brand of love are just some of the issues that are brought to light in this novel plus let’s not forget the mixture of two races: human and Courso. An ending that will leave you wondering what is next for our dynamic three, will Hailey’s mother ever stop driving her crazy and realize she’s an adult? Find out when author M.L. Ryan writes the sequel and we all learn what is happens next.

Characters that you will definitely love and a story told in the first person so you hear the thoughts of Hailey with and without Sebastian in her body. You hear her fears, frustrations and you understand her reasons for being cautious with her feelings. Just where she winds up you won’t get from me because I promised the Coursondon’s I would keep their secrets and never tell what happens at the end. Special Offers: Read the ad carefully before you decide to purchase your next electronic piece of equipment. Kindles are for reading except when they come equipped with an extra special something that can change your entire life. So, if you start to read your favorite novel on your ereader and your hand feels tingly and your body seems to have too much electricity, and your feel some electric shocks: You never know you too might have a Coursodon living within you and just imagine what adventures might be in store for you. This is book will definitely make you smile, laugh and lighten everyone’s mood. In case you can’t tell let me just say that this book is perfect when you want to read something that is light, has a great plot and definitely will make you smile. The book teaches readers the real meaning of friendship, understanding, creativity and love. This is a great read any time and a perfect way to start your New Year’s must read: reading list.

DANIELLE'S REVIEW

5 STARS

The concept behind this book intrigued me from the very beginning when I first heard about it. Then I hosted it for a book tour and got an excerpt from the book and burst out laughing. I just had to read the book.

The author has this innate tendency to draw the improbable and flat out strange and make you laugh. But it's not just a comedy or satire. The author also does a very good job with romance and action scenes. This book was very well rounded and I ended up immediately going out and buying the sequel in Kindle format (which I never do, by the way - I get so many free books for review, I can't remember the last time I bought a book).

I loved her dream sequences. They reminded me so much of how weird my own dreams tend to get. I could easily imagine myself having dreams like that. And the relationship with her mother was so real. It made me think of the relationship with my own mother, which is strained at the best of times.

All in all, the book took a lot of elements and wrapped them in a worthwhile package that kept you reading right to the very end… then wanting more (without feeling unfulfilled, of course… just ravenous).

SERENA'S REVIEW

4.5 STARS

Books written in the first person tend to be either really bad or really good. I’m glad to say that Special Offers falls into the latter category! Hailey, the heroine, is a rather spunky divorcée with a bite and that’s what I enjoyed about her and written this way, we really get to know the ins and outs of her character – not sickly or sweet, just real. This is something that M.L Ryan does really well and I really liked her voice. The sex scenes are hot and the dialogue is fast-paced. Great characterizations, although Hailey’s mother is rather annoying, if I do say so myself! But then, I guess that’s the point although it is a bit of a cliché.

I would say that I dislike books ending with a cliff-hanger, even though I understand their purpose… to encourage readers to purchase book number two in the series! But in this case, a little too much was left hanging for my liking! Hence the 0.5 subtraction. I like everything to be tied up and then, for the strength of the novel and the author’s voice to urge me to buy book two. Hey, I’m mean, when my curiosity isn’t quenched lol.

Not too big a fan on the cover as it doesn’t do the story justice. So to those of you who do judge a book by its artwork, look past it! Great storyline, strong plot and even stronger characters. All the makings of a fabulous read. I really enjoyed it.

Hailey Parish is the woman that I could see myself being. I love my kindle and I am always downloading new books and trying to find all the best deals that I can. I just can't imagine hav ing a male inside me that would just be a little too much. I know that this is what brings the book to life.

I will admit that at first I was wondering if this was the book for me. It is a litlle different and from an author than I have never heard or read from before. Once I started reading I was surprised that I enjoyed it. When I read a book like this I try to take my time and get what I can out of a book and I don't want to miss any parts of the book. I am always looking to see if there is something that I can compare myself to or just something that calls to me.

With this book you get all different kinds of books pulled into one. You have suspense, fantasy, romance and comedy. I enjoy comedy and the crazier the better. On some books it is hard to get the comedy across. Sometimes you think the author is being sarcastic.

The way the authors words just come off the paper and the way the words flow keeps my attention. The author did a wonderful job with her characters and bringing out all the feelings. The author kept my attention and I nevet felt lost. If you are looking for a new author and something a little different then I would recommend that you read this book. You won't be disappointed.

The first thing that popped into my head when I read it was a genie in a magic lamp!

I thought, Wow, a new take for an old tale. I thought it was quite creative. Don’t know if that was the authors basis, but it works for me.

From the beginning I knew I liked Hailey. She is so normal and genuine. I could relate to her, right down to her eating habits. I too stand at the kitchen sink and chow down sometimes. When you are cooking for one, why make a mess at the table to clean up. And her daily routines. I also feel like a robot going through the motions half awake.

Her life is anything but routine when she purchases the Kindle and presses the on button. It came fully loaded. Loaded with the essence, or spirit, of Sebastian, a Coursodon from another dimension. And now he’s inside her. She can hear him in her head.

Along comes Alex. He’s another Coursodon and he has been tracking Sebastian, trying to return him to his body. He comes clean about who and what he is to Hailey. He’ll be needing her help. This part made me laugh!

“I knew you were too good looking to be in insurance,” I remarked flippantly and he shot me a reproachful glare. “Hey, when I get nervous, the smart-ass just comes cascading out of my mouth,” I shrugged. “It’s a character flaw. Get over it.”

What Hailey lacks in size, she makes up for with her snarky, tough as nails attitude. I ‘d enjoy hanging with her.

Sebastian and Alex can communicate with each other when Alex is in physical contact with Hailey. They will be holding hands a lot. The plan is to find where Sebastian’s body has been taken, and return his essence to it. That means Hailey will have to be present.

Hailey adjusts to having Sebastian in her head, but she doesn’t have to like it. He is a very sexual male and his frustrations are very front and center at times. Hailey’s have none of his suggestion that she bed someone to satisfy his needs. She’s not going to be his “psychic f!!k buddie.”

Hailey is slow in trusting Alex. She had a shitty marriage with a low down cheating husband and her heart took a major hit. She is very attracted to Alex, but will take it slow and easy. I like how the author keeps the heat of their relationship for the end. I thoroughly enjoyed the getting to know you parts.

My connection to Alex was gradual, but became very strong near the end. His revelations to Hailey made me want to hug him. And this scene is just to heart melting:

Alex was already in my bed under the covers, and I paused for a moment when I saw he had claimed the left side. Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve always slept on the left side of any bed bigger than a twin. It’s probably just habit, and after my initial hesitation, I started over to the opposite side, because, really, what’s the big deal about one side over another? As I pulled back the covers, however, Alex stopped me.

“Wait,” he said as he scooted over to his right. “I was just warming up your side for you.”

He held up the covers in the spot he had just vacated and I dutifully moved around the bed and climbed in. The sheets were, indeed, warm and cozy, a far cry from the chilliness that winter usually imparts to bedding.

That is the most considerate thing anyone has ever done for me,” I said softly. “I really don’t deserve you.”

Alex is a keeper.

As their feelings for each grow so does the danger and intrigue. Sebastian’s body is being held as a trophy by his nemesis and it won’t be easy to get it back.

Thumbs up to Special Offers. M. L. Ryan has a winner for originality and her quality of writing. She took what could have been heavy reading and made it light and fun. Throughout the book, tidbits of everyday things in life made it very real.

And the comedy kept me laughing. I had many laugh out loud moments, like when Hailey teases Sebastian with a view of her sexy friend Rachel, and about her job – she milks Chinchillas. And the back and forth with Sebastian, in her head, is too funny!

Special Offers came along at a low point, and it was a perfect cure for my blues. It will make you laugh and smile, cheering you up.

Here are some scenes I really cracked up at:

“By the way, how did you get my number?”

“Men’s bathroom wall, second stall,” he stated matter-of-factly.

“Excuse me?”

“Just trying to lighten the mood…”

And this one:

I really had enough of Sebastian at the moment. “Hey Sebastard,” I sputtered. “Yumago! Do prdele! Haista paska! Jabiesz jeze! Foda-se!”

“What was all that?”

I stood and huffed out, Korean, Czech, Finnish, Polish and Portugese!”

I started this book with a peek. Next thing I knew I was on Chapter 4. I fell asleep reading it the first night. Couldn’t stay awake. Tried to finish it the next night, and so tired from work I fell asleep again. Getting frustrated! I had a surprise day off the next morning and finished it while my son was in the dentist’s chair. People were giving me funny looks when I chuckled. I ended up talking to two women in the waiting room, and they said they were going to check it out.

You should check it out too. It’s a perfect book to lighten your mood and make you smile.

So, this book is written from the point of view of the main character, Hailey, who is a 30 year old woman three years removed from a divorce with a fairly boring life. She's become complacent, working a stable job and associating with coworkers, but no longer dating after a failed marriage that ended horribly (and frankly her ex husband should be thrown off a cliff). She's an avid reader and finally decides to join the new age by purchasing a kindle at the reduced price, the basic one with special offers on it.
Upon receiving it, she gets a slight shock, which she thinks is static. Then she receives strange calls from a person claiming that she'd called him, when she'd made no calls at all. On her morning run, she meets a man named Alex, who she encounters again at a bar one night and for the first time, hears a strange male voice in her mind. This freaks her out and she runs, only for Alex to follow and she is brought into a world she'd never dreamed of. The voice in her head is Sebastian, something like a detective from the alternate world, in charge of hunting down others of his kind, Courso, that violate their laws. Alex is his partner and apparently Hailey had really made those calls, only Sebastian was in control and she had no memory of it. So through some means they now have to find Sebastian's body to get him back into it.
Along the way, we are treated to the personalities of the three main characters. Sebastian is the average single male, I suppose, very sexually active and never exclusive with a seriously high sex drive that makes some awkward moments for Hailey. Hailey is a natural smartass, which makes me love her more. Alex is a bit old school but charming and loyal. We discover that Hailey actually gets Sebastian's urges, which translates to her eating and drinking things she normally wouldn't, and also having to deal with his overactive libido. It makes for some hilarious moments before we hit the seriousness of getting Sebastian's body back and the struggle.
The only thing I had a problem with is the cliffhanger ending. Now I absolutely must read the next book because I didn't see that ending coming.

This book was hilarious! That’s the best way to describe it. Hailey Parrish, the main character, has a sarcastic sense of humor that made me laugh out loud at times. She hasn’t had a date in three years, and although she kind of wished she had, a large collection of paperbacks threatening to take over her small living space, is a good way to live with not having a man in your life. But since paperbacks are old-fashioned, and they take up her much-needed space, she bought an eBook reader during a “special offers” purchase. Unfortunately those “special offers” included more than a reduced price! The eBook reader is pre-loaded with the essence of Sebastian Kess, a womanizer with magical abilities from a parallel dimension.

When Hailey accidently releases him, he starts inhabiting her body. These circumstances lead her straight to another supernatural, the handsome could-be-the-man-of-her-dreams Alex Sunderland. But if they want to be together, Alex and Hailey will have to find a way to return Sebastian to his own body and stay one step ahead of the criminals pursuing him.

Hailey is a lovely character. I liked her sense of humor, her wit, her sharp intelligence. I also liked Ale, but I liked Hailey better. As an avid reader, she reminded me of myself, complete with weird little habits. The humor is what drew me to this book, but Hailey is the one who kept me reading.

There were a lot of genres featured here: action, suspense, romance, comedy, and the author handled all of them well. If you want a read that will have you laugh out loud, sit at the edge of your seat in suspense, or make swoony eyes at the romance, then this book is for you.

Special Offers
By M.L. Ryan

Divorcee Hailey Parrish has been single for three years and has no interest in men, compulsive book hoarder she decides one day to buy a kindle; once she does she is bombarded by men. The kindle that she bought for a reduced price with “special offers” comes fully installed with a man who takes over residence inside her body until he can get back to his own.

This is such a funny book! I of course had to read it after the author approached me, I mean a man in a kindle what more could a bookworm such as myself ask for? Unfortunately my kindles have never come with one. Not only does this novel have a paranormal aspect but also a science fiction approach with Sebastian, the man trapped inside Hailey, and his business partner Alex being from another world altogether where their bodies never die but their spirits move on. What makes this novel so much fun is Sebastian and Hailey are complete opposites and must manage to cohabitate the same body. This is truly a fun a quirky book though the cover does need a bit of work, do not let it fool you, this book is definitely worth reading!

I picked up this fun book through BookCrossing dot com. I put off reading it for a long, long time. Why? The title and the cover. Even the blurb didn't make me want to read it. But I am so glad I finally did!

It is only vaguely about Special Offers. What it is is a humorous paranormal story. When I started reading it I couldn't stop. I needed something light to read as my husband was in the hospital and I was in the middle of a fibro-flare. So I couldn't be at the hospital with him. Instead, I started this book. What a joy!

The characters M.L. Ryan invented were wonderful. Haily, the main character, is quirky and fun. She isn't a hopeless romantic, she is practical and has a sharp wit. That romance happens in the deal is felt as rather coincidental. The rest is quite the adventure!

Even though I picked this up from BookCrossing, I want you to know it is free for Kindle on Amazon right now. I recommend it for adults, as there are a couple scenes that might be too racy for young adults. I picked up another copy so I could read it in my other readers when I feel the need of the fun ride again.

Reading the description of this book, you can't help but think, "Oh geez, really?" - I really did NOT want to like this book, but I couldn't help but read it because it sounded so weird that I couldn't resist.

I was actually quite pleasantly surprised. It's not highfaluting fiction, for sure, but an interesting mix of chick lit and urban fantasy. It was funny, silly, weird and a blast. It was a perfect read for when you've been burned out with too much heavy reading, just a lot of fun and a really fast read.

The writing was decent, the story was fun and the premise something different.

Recommended for those that like chicklit and are looking for something different.

Yeah I'm DNF'ing this one. I can't be bothered to pick it back up after not having even glanced at it for like a week or so.

Nothing happens. She's boring.
Couldn't get into it.

Since I can't remember anything else... I'll share with you a comment I did make so as to remember it... "Oh my god, this has to be the author's first novel. It's full of the every second of the MCs day minutia details that just irritate a reader and betray the novice status of the author. Really, did we need to know about the MC's collection of hair sticks? Did we need a page and a half of that? REALLY?"

this book was just what I needed. Funny, Light and interesting. I definitely will read the sequel.

Hailey Parish is a recent divorcee, who works at a Diary Plant where she supervises the production of Chinchilla milk cheese. One day, as she was preparing to read a book on her new Kindle, she felt an energy jolt from the device. She thought nothing of it, and kept on reading. The very next day, a host of weird occurrences began happening. First, her cat wouldn’t come near her. Then when she got to work, her best friend commented on the fact that Hailey, a normally staunch black coffee advocate, was adding sugar and cream to her coffee. After work, when they went to the bar, Hailey ordered drinks that she doesn’t like, and she drank them. Finally, she kept getting calls from a guy named Alex Sunderland, who claimed that he was getting calls from Hailey’s number, but Hailey doesn’t recall dialing this man’s phone number.

We find out that Hailey was possessed by the spirit of Sebastian, an “otherworld” being, who teleported into Hailey’s body via her Kindle. Sebastian, “otherworld” law enforcer, was ambushed by a villain that he was pursuing and so Sebastian encrypted his essence into a binary code and transmitted himself to his laptop. But instead of his intended destination, Sebastian ended up in Hailey’s Kindle. When Hailey turned on the device, he was transmitted into her body. She could hear him in her head, and she could communicate with him the same way. The trick now was to get Sebastian out of her body, while trying to see where this thing with Alex could go. This is where the real adventure takes place. The How, why, where and whom were revealed. I will admit that it was predictable, but it didn’t take away from the satisfaction at all.

This story was written in the first person narrative, in the heroine Hailey’s voice. She was very funny. Both Hailey and Sebastian possessed sarcastic wit and I laughed out loud several times reading this book. Another funny character was Hailey’s mom. She really cracked me up with her religious zeal, especially her comments about the “heathen” plumbers. The characters had great chemistry and the writing made everything flow.

I was really pleased to read a book that was entertaining, yet light. The hero was such a nice guy. It was clear that Alex was drawn to Hailey from the beginning. Hailey has self-esteem/worth issues and Alex did all the right things to help her work out her issues. He gave Hailey room to trust him and he wasn’t aggressive. So nothing felt forced in this novel.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the cover. I am sorry, but it pretty dreadful. But I am glad that I overcome that initial put-off and read the book or I would have missed out. I am anticipating the sequel because the story wasn’t finished. It wasn’t a huge cliff hanger, but there is more left to be told.

I recommend this series to anyone who loves Paranormal Romance, but doesn’t want a heavy dose of sex and violence. It will lighten your mood after you finish reading a dark UF or heavy PNR.

Lucee’s Review of Special Offers by M L Ryan
This is the first time I’ve struggled when writing a review. As I’ve never had a book draw me in so completely yet at the same time frustrated me to distraction. When I read the blurb on Special offers I was intrigued and was excited to read it. I was not let down by the plot, the embodiment of the storyline or the characters who were enthralling.
Hailey: The smartass who is possessed by the essence of Sebastian a being from another realm; is hilarious and had me in stitches throughout the entire story. She was also vary endearing and serious when she needed to be. She showed remarkable strength of character and determination when faced with adversity. Hailey has some warm, caring a loyal friend who lookout for her and their personalities marinate very well with her own.
Sebastian: The opinionated mystical being who invaded Hailey’s body courtesy of her Amazon special offer Kindle device; was charming, courteous and amusing. His interaction with Hailey were side splittingly funny and had me laughing out loud. Equally there were scene between the two which were sincere, touching and heartfelt. There was something very moving about their relationship which the reader can fully appreciate.
Alex: The mystical charming eye candy from another dimension that every girl dreams about. A colleague and close personal friend of Sebastian. An inevitable love interest for Hailey. Who would have to be dead to pass up that opportunity! Alex is loyal caring and attentive. He explains to Hailey how it came that Sabastian possessed her body and what it was they needed to do to get him back into his own body. Which Hailey appeared to take very well? Alex finds Hailey’s attempts to hide her attraction to him amusing at first until he discovered the true reasons why.
This book has great characters, good storyline and a world that I’m interested to know more about.
Here is where thing become contradictory for me on a subjective level. I loved the story and read the book in one sitting which is something I very rarely do. The story was such, I was compelled to keep reading. However some of the hifalutin descriptive scene in respect to locations, frustrated me – they were like Marmite (a vegetable extract spread you either love or hate). Nevertheless skipping over them took nothing away from the story which left me wondering if they were even necessary!
That said this is my kind of fiction. I think M L Ryan has something special with her Coursodon Dimension Series and seeing as book one ended on a cliff hanger. I’m heading over to Amazon to find out what comes next…

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)

Tome Tender is part of Paranormal Cravings Book Tours Presents: SPECIAL OFFERS by M. L. Ryan August 19-31

Who says reading isn’t fun? Special Offers by M. L. Ryan had me laughing out loud at the antics, thoughts and actions of its main character, Hailey! Seems Hailey took the eReader plunge to conserve space in her cramped apartment, and ordered the Kindle with the special offers. As she was setting it up, she was zapped, and suddenly she wasn’t alone I her mind! The essence of a man from another realm was in there with her! Honest, in her mind was the dry and opinionated Sebastian! This leads to her to meeting Alex, a friend of the Sebastian’s, another realm traveler with magical powers. And wow, is he hot! Together, the three of them need to get Sebastian back into his body, which is being hidden away by yet ANOTHER realm traveler, who happens to be our villain! Can they manage this feat or will Hailey forever be taking showers in the dark?

M. L. Ryan MUST have had fun writing this paranormal treat! Full of snark, humor, some danger, and L.O.V.E., Special Offers is a treat to read! I have 6 Kindles, 3 of them are the ‘Special Offer’ ones, and I keep checking, but, nope, no hot guy came with ANY of them! Maybe I’m trying the wrong Binary Code?

Title: Special Offers
Author: M.L. Ryan
Genre: Contemporary Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Running With Scissors Publishing (February 10, 2012)
Available: $0.99
Rating: 5+ stars
Rater: Dihanna

From the publisher:

What I liked: I flat loved this book! I loved the characters, and Sebastian in particular. I loved his sense of humor, and how testy-naughty he can be. And Hailey was wonderful. She discovered herself and managed to hold fast to her magnificent sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and looking forward to reading the Coursodon Dimension Series! I rate this book 5.5 out of 5 stars – easily!

What I didn’t like: Not one thing.

In sum: If you miss this one, you will regret it.

If you just heard the unearthly wail of someone screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”, then you were probably in the near vicinity as I finished up my latest R2R adventure, Special Offers by author M.L. Ryan. Damn you, Ms. Ryan. But let me start at the beginning…
I received this book for free through my online book club Goodreads, in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. All thoughts and opinions are mine, all mine.
An avid book reading, sexually frustrated, chinchilla milker (no, that’s not a typo) named Hailey is in a funk. She’s a divorced young woman who lives in a 1 bedroom apartment with her cat Vinnie, and who hasn’t been on a date since her ill-fated nuptials ended 3 years earlier. She finally decides to join the e-book era and purchases a Kindle e-reader, never suspecting that one, insignificant event would thrust her into a world of super-secret trans-oceanic missions with gorgeous fellas, underground secret spy chalets for extra-dimensional wanderers, and the shared co-habitation of not one, but TWO super-hunky dreamy alien men. One in her body, and one who she’d like to be in her body. (wink!)
But no, dear readers – I will not divulge any more salacious details. Suffice it to say that the book ends with a cliffhanger (RE: aforementioned “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!”), and I find that I just may have another favorite author. This book has wit and snark in spades, and M.L.Ryan has created a refreshing, cheeky character with Hailey.
Would consider this a ‘New Adult’ novel, since there are some racy parts (wowza – Helllloooooo Alex!).
Get this book. Read this book. Support this author so that she can write more deliciously wicked stuff!!

I was pleasantly surprised by Special Offers. At first I was rolling my eyes (after all it was a story about a man's personality/ memories/ attitude getting caught in a kindle and transferred into the first human who used it), but I enjoyed it. Special Offers is a science fiction romance and they are quite rare. The hero is magically adept which could put this as a paranormal romance, but the reason he's magical is because he's from another dimension. That puts it squarely in sci-fi.

Hailey is a divorcee who milks chinchilla's for a living. Her life is odd but boring at the same time. Then she meets Alex. He's not the kind of man who normally hits on her, in fact he isn't a man at all, at least not human. They embark on a grand adventure to ensure Hailey's safety and privacy by getting Sebastian out of her head and back into his OWN body.

The concept was unique and a lot more compelling than the set up promised. The author gets bonus points for originality. The characters were fun and the dialogue realistic. Never once did I think, 'no one would say that'. There was no sex until the very end but that means I had time to fall for Alex, just as Hailey did.

I loved the idea of a soul being stuck in a Kindle and knew I had to read this book.

It was well written and the characters had distinct personalities but something kept nagging me as I was reading. I finally started making notes in my Kindle while reading and almost all of them said the same thing - "too formal". I think it would have been even more fun had the dialogue and description been a little more casual but I enjoyed it anyway.

So, if you like romance, sci-fi and the paranormal, it's definitely worth a read, but you might never look at your Kindle the same way again. :-)

This book was provided to me free of charge, by Bewitching Book Tours, for my honest opinion.

This is an absolutely sweet find of a book. Someone on my FB page recommended it and I downloaded a sample from Kindle. (A major player in the book, by the way.) I was completely hooked before finishing the second page. I love the heroine, Hailey, and the "assistant" characters, Alex and Sebastian. Ms. Ryan combines the best of romance, science fiction and mystery in this book and series. I've already gotten Special Rewards, the second book and am looking forward to the third in the series.

Get this book! You will NOT be disappointed.

I wasn't sure about this book at first. I didn't know if it would be one that I would enjoy. I was surprised when I got into the story. The author did a great job and I just couldn't put it down until I was finished with it.

This book had romance, comedy, and suspense. When you have a book that has all these in one you know that you will be taken on an adventure that will take you out of this world.

I really hate giving this a bad rating since it's 100% not my style and I knew that coming in, but I had to read something along these lines for a book challenge. The writing wasn't terrible and there was actually a fair amount of characterization over time. I liked enough about the story that I could push through to the end and actually wanted to find out what happens. If you enjoy paranormal type romances and the description sounds up your alley, go for it.

I was delivered a pleasant surprise with this book. I was contacted by the author for a possible review. After reading the description there was some slight hesitation but mostly intrigued by the trapped in a Kindle concept. I figured it could either go well or horribly wrong and I was intrigued enough to find out. It turned out to go well! ML Ryan took what could have easily been a very cheesy concept and turned it interesting. Sebastian on the verge of death transferred his spirit into an electronic device which due to technical issues ended up transferring him to a Kindle manufacturer and then shipped to Hailey when she ordered a “Special Offer” kindle. The whole Kindle aspect turned out to be a very small but pivotal detail of this entertaining tale.

At first it took me a moment to get used to the point of view, it’s told from Hailey’s point of view but much like a person actually telling the story out loud so there are a lot of “I”s and “Then I”. After a few chapters I got with the flow and it no longer bothered me. The story itself was humorous and entertaining, I found myself in turns laughing and finding myself caught up in the multidimensional world that Ryan built. The story line moved along quickly and you found yourself wrapped up in what was going on. I never found myself bored with the story line and it kept me up later then I should have been and I was eager to pick the story back up the next day. Too many times I put a book down for the night without much enthusiasm to pick the story back up the next day. Those books generally get left behind, so I am happy to report this was not the case here. I was eager to return to the story and was not disappointed.

Sebastian instead of being intrusive was a humorous addition to this motley “threesome” he butted in when appropriate and added to the conversation and the laughs and never stole the show. His character was well written and was a great compliment to the characters dynamic. Alex was everything you want your hero to be; he was sweet, understanding, and thoughtful. When he warmed her side, I definitely had an “Aw” moment. He was very supportive of Hailey and patient. He managed to be sensitive but still remain a hard a$$, this man is no push over and can handle himself in any situation. You don’t get to know him as well as you get to know Hailey and even to some extent Sebastian, because you are never in his head which is a shame. I would have liked to have felt like I knew him a bit better, what makes Alex tic and what are all of his talents; however, overall he was quite likeable and enjoyable. I always like to get at least a little bit into the males head.

Hailey is our center stage in this book, after a failed marriage she is unsurprisingly gun shy. She hasn’t even had a date in 3 years. When she meets Alex she is a bit on the weary side; after her marriage she is not quick to trust any man, even when she wants to with all of her heart. She is sweet, shy, but does not lack a back bone. Since her divorce and job change she has been in a state of limbo, while content she doesn’t quite know what to do next. Hailey is on a path of self discovery in this book; by the end she discovers what exactly she is capable of. I don’t think you will be disappointed in what she discovers. Overall, I enjoyed Hailey and this book. I will be reading book 2 whenever it comes out, I enjoyed it that much. I would suggest snatching this book up at amazon or smashwords, I believe it is a bargain at $0.99.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*

The synopsis made this book sound quirky, fun, and a touch fantasy-ish. I definitely got more than I expected with the fantasy/supernatural elements than I thought I would, but since I don't mind that kind of thing, that made me very happy. In fact, I liked the inventiveness of those parts in the book, and I am really interested in seeing how the sequel plays out. As for the quirky and fun side of the story, Hailey was the cause of most of that, but honestly, how can you resist a book wherein someone is possessed by a spirit that resides in their shiny new Kindle?

As I mentioned, Hailey was a really fun protagonist. She was smart, never did anything annoying, and always took care to make sure that she wasn't as overdramatic as she could have been. I definitely appreciated that. I liked her as a person, too. I could definitely see her and I hanging out, especially over book chats. One of the other things i appreciated about Hailey was that she didn't fall for Alex right away, and she made sure to keep their relationship from going too far, until she was certain that he wanted it that way.

Speaking of Alex, I thought he was interesting too. We didn't get to know a whole lot about him in this book, but I'm hoping that that will change in book two. However, I liked what I did get to know. He was intelligent, sweet, and also very funny. I thought he and Hailey were really good together, and I can't wait to see what happens with them during this series.

There were a couple side characters, but the most prominent one was Sebastian. He was a womanizing but intelligent and humorous person, whom I liked despite his ways. As he was the one who possessed Hailey's body, I didn't know quite what to expect from him, and I found it quite fun to read about. There were also Hailey's friends who I thought were a good support team for her, and this was especially true for Rachel. She was Hailey's best friend, and it was obvious that she wanted Hailey to be happy. Lastly, this story had villains, who were the criminals mentioned in the synopsis. To say too much would give things away, but it's safe to say that I definitely hated one in particular. Therefore, the characters in this book were all definitely well-done, since they all caused me to feel different things, and they made up most of the greatness of this story.

With that in mind, I do have to say that I really liked the plot. It was all about how Alex and Hailey were trying to get Sebastian back into his body. However, there was an interesting bit of world-building, and it definitely gave the book a fantasy type feel. I don't want to give anything away, but this story had some interesting and original ideas in it, and I really liked it.

Overall, this was a really interesting book. It had a great heroine that I really liked, and some other good characters. There was a plot about possession, as well as otherworldly beings. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind a bit of fantasy, and after seeing how this book ended, I'm totally excited for the next part of the series.

4.6/5

Okay, may I just say that the author did a phenomenal job creating characters that contain flaws, but are still able to make you love them nonetheless? I adored Hailey, Sebastian, and Alex.

Sebastian was thoroughly entertaining and I know the book would not have been the same without his commentary and holier than thou attitude. I love that, even as a character inhabiting Hailey's body, he still manages to grow and change for the better as a character. Also, he is charming and funny. Hehe. And a bit of a devil. Oh, Sebastian, you flirt, you. ;)

Hailey was a complete doll. I loved reading the book from her POV. Her voice was original and refreshing and funny. I love the underlying sarcasm and attitude in which she tackles problems. I was highlighting the best ones from her and Sebastian like crazy. Those two just won me over completely with their wit and humor. And it was not overdone like in a few of the popular urban fantasy series I have encountered. Very nicely done. Hailey is also a very down to earth girl who we can all relate with. She is a bit of a dork, but she has good friends and is very realistic about the obstacles she has to overcome. Like I said, I adored her.

Alex was a great character as well. (: He was more low key with the wit and humor, but it is there and he was just precious. He was sweet, thoughtful, and sexy. I did not get a deeper connection to him as I did with the other two characters, but I have an explanation for that. As a reader, I was inside Hailey's head in her first person POV. And since Sebastian was "inhabiting" Hailey, I got a front row seat to his emotions as Hailey experienced them. So it's not really Alex's fault that I failed to connect to him as well as I did with the other characters. He was still darling and I DID connect with him. (: Maybe I will get more in- depth knowledge in book 2! Which I am so excited to read. Especially after the ending for this book. I love books that have new ideas or problems introduced leading into the next book or next few books.

The villain was pretty pretty tame as villains go. I mean, I have encountered some hard core crazy- a## bad guys in books. This guy.. meh. (: I mean, he wasn't a pansy or anything.

The gore level is basically low. Well, not counting that one part. (: The romance is adult (yaaay! sex! lol) so if you do not read books with adult content, then you are really missing out. Er. I mean, then you should probably opt out. ;)

I loved the characters, I loved the premise, I loved the alternative universe that was just touched on in this book. (Book two, perhaps?) I also loved quirky banter established between the characters. Oh, and I loved the ending! I felt that as far as the story went, the bad guy was sub par, but there is always book 2! The descriptions got a little bit confusing in a few small parts, but that may just be me. This book was pretty awesome. That coupled with the awesome ending has me my hopes pretty high for the second book!

Hailey Parrish is content to live her life just the way she wants it. Her old-fashioned ways suit her just fine. There's no need for her to upgrade to the current technological age. Until the moment she finds she has no room in which to store any more of her books. Books are her passion. The smell of one, the feel of the tender paper between her fingertips, and the overall contentment she feels when she holds one between her fingers is unlike anything she's ever known. Unfortunately, she has no more free space for more.

Deciding to cave in, and get herself a new Kindle, Hailey never imagined just how much trouble owning one would bring. Still, she needs her book fetish taken care of, and the Kindle will provide her with as many books as possible for less than what she currently pays for books. The thought of immersing herself day in and day out in her new books is pleasing, something she looks forward to immensely.

When the new device arrives, Hailey is more than happy to test things out. The device is certainly easy to manage, and allows her to take it anywhere. As she begins to start feeling poorly, she thinks nothing of it. In her mind, she's coming down with something unexpected. Such sicknesses can be overcome, and she's determined to do just that. Deciphering what she's ailing from, however, is another matter entirely. Yet never once does she consider that what's wrong with her might just pertain to the supernatural.

A chance encounter soon confirms her suspicions. She's possessed by an unknown entity, one who's intent on getting back to his own body. With the help of her new friend, Alex Sunderland, Hailey is determined to send Sebastian Kess back to where he belongs, once and for all. Unfortunately, he likes where he is for the moment, and doesn't seem to be keen to leave her body just yet. She, on the other hand, wants him gone completely. The thought of having someone else see what she sees, and hear what she hears, is daunting, something she can do without. Sending him home, unfortunately, is going to take some doing. Most especially when opposition comes at her and Alex from every side.

A heart-warming paranormal read, Special Offers is definitely a unique book in itself. The thought of a possessed Kindle is honestly something that's possible, though not in a good way. I say this because I do believe in the supernatural, and grew up being privy to so many things that make you go 'Hmmm'.

Hailey is just like any other girl, content with the simplicities of life. Sometimes, though, we all need to catch up to speed on technological advances. Granted, doing so is always daunting, and getting used to such things does take awhile. I did note a couple spots where the editing, (punctuation, mostly), needed to be fixed, but it wasn't a lot that detracted from the story itself. A quick read, Special Offers is one of those books you'll enjoy no matter what you're doing.

*No major spoilers*

There were a lot of things I liked about Special Offers. First of all I loved the storyline. It was so original and not like anything I've heard before, hence why I felt that I had to read this book and it did not dissappoint. A man in a kindle is not something you hear about every day. First impression when you start the book is that it'll be a relatively "normal" story, following Hailey in her daily routines with her job and home and of couse her book hoarding, but as you get further there's magic and people from other dimensions adding something paranormal to Hailey's life. As the main character I really enjoyed Hailey. Her being a book hoarder is something I can definitely relate to and also her getting a kindle to (maybe) replace all the paperbacks, but as it turns out her kindle came with a man, Sebastian. One of the reason I really liked following Hailey as a main character was that upon first finding out that she had a man inside her body and being introduced to this whole new world with magic and what not she didn't freak out or anything and she
decided to help even though she may not know exactly what she was in for. There was no whining or anything. She's also quirky and just really fun. The humor in the book will make you laugh many times.
Sebastian the guy inside Hailey was probably also one of my favorite characters in the book. He was so much fun and I loved his and Hailey's banter that went on.
Alex was just so sweet from the start, well almost, with the calls he made to Hailey he wasn't thát sweet as when he showed up in person. But when he was there I liked his and Hailey's chemestry and of course knew that these two would have to get together at some point. Yet the romance did not overshadow the real purpose of their "mission" I would call it. I liked that it wasn't in focus all the time with everything else going on. I also felt that Hailey and Alex really got to know eachother before anything happened. It wasn't something instant that just happened like that, but took its time while they went through with working on getting Sebastian back to his body.
I thought the book's pace was fast and wasn't slowed down with irrelevant information about, as an example, their travels, or describing multiple days where not a lot happened, I was glad that it wasn't the case and were skipped in order to fit in the important things and also the romance between Hailey and Alex.
I liked the author's way of writing, kept the story interesting throughout.
My favorite part about this book really was the storyline. I just love the idea. Everything goes from being normal to changing so fast and suddenly Hailey is dragged into this magical world. Hailey's humor made it very enjoyable since she was an easy and fun maincharacter to follow.
