reads like an abstract painting. you recognize hints of beauty, and nod in appreciation of the elements that were put together (which were most likely created in moments of divine contemplation and comes from experience), but it can be merciless; open to interpretation. and when the reader does not comprehend what the stories want to say, they are left with texts that could only be taken at face value -- nothing deeper.

in the end, i recognize the skill (and mr. lacuesta is indeed a palanca award

Favorite lines:

Half of him was scared about things coming through like that. He'd always thought you had a given number of lucky things happening to you in your life. Some people had more, some people had less.
