Fifteen year-old Jonah Levine is practically invisible at Applecrest High. His Facebook page is pathetic, his baseball skills are mediocre at best, and his IQ seems to drop 50 points when talking to girls. But everything changes when his rock band, Hitstreak, becomes the hottest teen sensation in the country. And now they’re about to perform in front of 15,000 screaming fa ...more

"Ever wonder what it's like to be a major rockstar?".. YES!

Overnight Sensation is definitely one of the few books that somehow managed to get me reading the whole book in one sitting. And no, I am not exaggerating. Overnight Sensation is the kind of books which made me feel, think and laugh. I had high expectations for this book that constantly got me waiting to be amazed that I got too busy trying to find that special moment to really enjoy it. I failed....

Overnight Sensation
I will start by saying that I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy read. Jonah is a fifteen-year-old boy that finds out that his dad used to be a rock star. His dad decides to get his band back together just for some fun jam sessions. They record a song that Jonah shares with his friends. Somehow the song gets sent to the radio station and played on air…the catch? The radio station thinks that Jonah and his friends are the ones that are in the band.

The boys decide to st

** I received this book through Goodreads First Reads. This in no way affects my review. **

Meet Jonah 'Joman' Levine. He is what you would describe: a typical fifteen year old teenager, struggling to fit in, trying not to get beaten up by the school bully (Gozzy), trying to get the girl of his dreams (Theresa), hanging out with his friends (Kyle, Jess and Bart), and in the mean time, figuring out who he really is. Sounds like a lot, right?

Little did Jonah know that when he and his little bro

Author Hal Eisenberg captures the way teenage guys think and talk to each other. With humor and sensitivity, he shares a page-turning story that’s a whole lot of fun. Overnigh ...more

Jonah Levine is just your average 15-year-old guy. That is, until his band “Hitstreak” becomes a phenom on the radio airwaves. The only problem? The song that's made them so famous isn't them. It's his father's band; a band that recently began playing together again after over 30 years of separation.

Living this lie has it's ups, and it's downs. Jonah and his buddies are enjoying all the female attention it's brought on, but not the stre

Overnight Sensation was easily a light and funny read that I definitely enjoyed. I burst out laughing about half the time. The characters were awesome and developed quite nicely throughout the book, even the school bully turned out to be rather cool. The plot was super fast, but extremely entertaining. I had fun seeing how the band would face the challenge before them. Half of them sounded like they were having the time of their lives (and they probably were), but poor Jonah was close to crackin ...more

As the first line reads; "Ever wonder what it's like to be a major rockstar?", I instantly started thinking the answers of what the most of the people in my class would say. Yes, yes, yes. This whole storyline has been done before, but the author still makes the book gripping and additive. He definitely earns a credit to the self-publishing industry.

Overnight Sensation is told through the eyes of Jonah Levine, a fifteen year old boy who is labeled a '

Jonah has always loved music. His friends share his love as well and together they formed a band. The fact that none of them really play and mostly just want to be in a "band" for the girls is a moot point. He never expected that his own dad had a rock 'n roll past or that it would so greatly affect Jonah's band's future.

Through a series of missteps, miscommunication, and teenage hubris, Jonah and his friends find themselves pretending the be the band behind the hot new song on the radio. The tr

My Thoughts:

When Hal Eisenberg approached me about this book, he thought I would be interested since I mentioned in my ‘about me’ section about liking Billy Joel and Steely Dan. I really am a super fan of the classics from the seventies. I grew up on them. Some days, it’s all I want to hear, just a loop of great music from that era. Since this story ties in nicely to music of the seventies, I had to see what it was all about.

Jonah Levine is an average teenager, that is until he becomes an overnight sensation with his band. The only problem is, the song that was accidentally leaked to the radio station that made his band HitStreak such a sensation is not actually by them... it's by his father's band, which was marginally hot in the 1970s and recently got back together. Whoops...

Overnight Sensation was utterly entertaining! I picked it up off my desk to skim for a minute and the next thing I know, I'm sitting on the c

My thoughts:
Overnight Sensation hooks you from the first paragraph and takes the reader on a wild, bumpy ride.
Hitstreak-the hottest teen rock band of the moment stand on stage ready to play their chart topping tune in front of a crowd of screaming, rabid fans.
Sounds like a teen's fantasy right?
There's just a small problem-the song is not theirs and these teens have only been a "band" for a couple of months. The lead singer of the band-15 year old Jonah wonders how in the world he and his fri

This is a very engaging Young readers book, and those in the parental age group with a love for music and teenage exuberance will also find it lots of fun. I have a special fondness for the project because Hal contacted me several months ago about a book he'd written and said he wanted to use a song by The Raves as an important element in the story. Furthermore, he wanted to feature it in his book promotions, on his website and even have a contest for young bands to re-record it. Naturally, I wa ...more

I saw the book on a giveaway and it tickled my interest. I didn't won the giveaway but I was still interested in the book hence the reading...

What irritates me a lot was all the spelling mistakes throughout the book. There were lots of them and poor Carmen, I don't know why but she becames a Carmine somewhere near the ending. And really, if you want to insert some Spanish, do it properly...

OK, that was just me nitpicking. But really, spelling mistakes irritates me.

The plot was curious though. A

Overnight Sensation is a fun ride through one teens Rock n' Roll dream. Hal has written an entertaining, easy to read young adult novel. This somewhat unbelievable chain of events will instantly intrigue you. I became wrapped up in Jonah's story and was eager to see how things would play out. Hal is a talented writer and I enjoyed his light-hearted and comical writing style. There was quite a few times where the Hitstreak antics had me laughing out loud. This book begins with a snippet of the en ...more

I have to say that I have not, at least I do not think so, read a book about a rock band. It was a different read for me and I am really glad that I picked up this book. I am literally sitting here typing this review and nodding my head about how happy I was to pick up this book. For me this wasn't the best book that is out there and it has not been the best book that I have ever read but I found this book really simple and enjoyable and I do not think there are many books out there that can do ...more

Fifteen year old Jonah is about to embark on the greatest journey of his young life. Jonah finds out that his dad used to be in a band once upon a time…and was actually pretty awesome. So when his dad and his old band mates get together and produce a song…Jonah sends it to his buddies to see what they think. One of the boys sends it to a local radio station which in turns sets everything into motion. And boy what a crazy ride these kids are on.

When I first read the synopsis for Overnight Sensation, I was wondering how the author was going to pull this off. A new hit song on the radio mistakenly gets attributed to a local teen band? It does sound a little far-fetched. But Overnight Sensation did a great job of drawing the reader in for this whirlwind ride of fame and glory.

What I loved is how much Jonah and his friends sounded like real teenagers. Sometimes the teenage "voice" is hard to write, but Hal Eisenberg did a great job with it

With the summary and the cover it's hard not to mention that this story does have some predictability to it. You know what's going to happen in the end. It's the events leading up to it that counts.

There is a lot of time that passes in this story. For the majority of the first half of the book it's dialogue, the going back and forth of "should we" and "what are we doing" The boys take several actions as most young boys do with not much thought to the act. But then the guilt and turmoil of what

Overnight Sensation is exciting!! This is about Jonah and his friends. Normal teens in high school. Bad social skills, crushing on girls, wishing for popularity. Life gets a little crazy when their made up band has an accidental hit on the radio. They allow the radio station to continue to play the song but now everyone wants to know who is behind the band HitStreak. The next thing you know there are girls, popularity, paparazzi, media and music moguls trying to get to them. How long can they ke ...more

Hal Eisenberg did an amazing job of creating a believable teenage world. The main character of the story is young Jonah. A wanna be musician with a band named HitStreak. Inadvertently, a song is sent to a radio station, a song entitled "Every Little Bit Hurts". This song gets some airtime and voila...overnight sensation. Only, the song is not done by HitStreak but by Jonah's dad's old band. OOPS!

As you can imagine, some fun and some not so fun things happen. But Jonah's family is always there f

When I received this book in the mail, I got super excited and curious to read it. Looking at the cover made me think and assume that this will definitely bring back the feelings back in high school when I was all about that bass. I mean, I was part of a band and playing along with my friends (seatmates/groupmates/classmates!!!) back then probably is one of the best memories in my life so far.

This book is an easy read. It's a page turner because it makes you crave more about what will happen nex

I'm a young adult writer with a background in advertising. Playing in rock bands since I was a teen, I've had the opportunity to open up for several famous '60s and '70s acts as well as play in front of huge crowds, and on the advertising side, I've been fortunate to work with various sports stars and celebrities on ad campaigns. So, when putting together the concept for Overnight Sensation, the l ...more
