A nice educational book, but I was a little disappointed that there weren't real pictures and only illustrations. For an educational book I think real photos are beneficial to the reader, especially because it talks about how you don't get to see the brilliant colors of sponges unless you see a Diver's photos...So show us the photos!

Information wise, this is a strong book and will keep the interest of a child for at least half of the book.

This was the chosen book for our Porifera week in our animal kingdoms unit. It was one of the only informative yet kid-friendly narrative style book I could find about sponges.

I enjoyed it, and so did the kids. I paired it with the DK Animal! Smithsonian book, and together they worked great. We also did a fun lesson using real sponges to demonstrate how they eat. It was a hit.

I definitely recommend it.

This is a great book about sponges as far as picture books about sponges go! : ) There was quite a bit of information presented in a readable way. I kept waiting for them to mention that maybe we shouldn't harvest sponges and kill them so we could take our baths, but I was pleasantly surprised. There was not any left leanings that I caught.
