Well clearly I was a whole lot of WRONG. And it's disappointing because I apparently gave Shepard way too much credit, thinking she was using things like, oh say - literary devices like foreshadowing and back story. Why Sara, if it was entirely meaningless to the story, did you bother with the whole Chamberlain cheating scandal? What a useless waste of page space. Oh well, I still think my ending would've been a smarter, less obvious ending.

I am convinced I know who the killer is.

Stop here if you don't want to be spoiled. And no, it's not Ethan. Or anyone else you are thinking. (Yes it is. I was wrong. *cries*)

Aaaaaaand... you're getting it here FIRST folks, because I haven't seen this anywhere else.

The killer is...

So those are the clues I've gathered so far, by going back and reading the first two books. I am sure as I go along more will be revealed that proves my hypothesis. But tell me what you think ladies. Am I onto something?

Why is there more than 4 books? I was hoping there will be only 4 so we can finally find out who killed Sutton. I might just wait until the final book is out before finishing the series, hopefully there isn't over 10 books like Pretty Little Liars.

This was much better than I expected it to be, with a crazy-as-hell ending I never saw coming! It's great to see the book series and TV show diverge.

Full review to come - maybe.

Pre-Review

And you're telling me I'm supposed to be surprised by the two-book extension of this series?

By the way, I totally saw this coming.

It would be pointless for me to tell myself I wasn't going to read this, because I am. I am a self-proclaimed Sara Shepard addict. Saying I'm going to cross this one off my to-read list is a bit useless.

Actual Rating: 3.95/5 Stars (yes I'm that specific)

This is probably my least favourite book so far in the series, but that by no means says I didn't enjoy it, because it was still awesome!

The last, roughly 100 pages were amazing and so intense, like the other books are!
I just got a little annoyed with the storyline of Becky in this book, I felt like it dragged along a little bit too long.

I did not expect the ending, and I usually expect everything, so that was awesome (but sad)
I have my theories (cough, Ethan, cough)

We shall see how it all ends in the next, and final book! Can't wait! :D

I've gotta say, Ms Shepard has gone down a few notches in my esteem with this new move to have more than the proposed 4 books in this series. I suppose this has become a bad habit for her after the success of Pretty Little Liars (I mean, what number are we on now, like, 11 right?). It seems to me that Shepard is milking this story for all it's worth, especially since book 3 had a plot that plummeted sharply in quality from the first 2 books.

It seems to me that the plot of soon-to-be-released book 4 ought to be truly gripping if we are expected to be patient with this series. Time will tell.

Oh, no. Not a fifth book. I hope this series does not get dragged out like PLLs.

2/5 I think that the "murder" was an accident in a prank pulled by Ethan that went wrong or Sutton is in a coma somewhere.

3/12 After finishing book 4, I no longer think that Ethan is the "killer." Instead I believe that he will be the "suspect" in the last book.

I liked this book overall, just hope they don't extend it after the 6th book. Some parts were boring, mainly the Ethan/Emma parts. Just never warmed up to Ethan.
NISHA DIED!!! I was shocked, was really starting to like her. At this point, how can you not suspect Ethan. He wasn't at school the day Nisha died, home "sick", yeah right. You would think Emma was notice if he was somewhat sick when he came over for dinner. And what about his whereabouts the night Sutton died?
Emma, what the hell is wrong with you? How can you sleep with Ethan after he insults your dead twin and you in front of a party? She is starting to make me angry as the series goes on, suspects everyone around her just by one scary sounding comment they make and then proves they were innocent. She should be investigating her ally, how dense can she be.
The good things Emma did in this book: find out more about Becky and apologize to Charlotte in Sutton's name, KISS THAYER ;) and apologize to Celeste, who I believe will help her in the next book.
Just when I think I couldn't love Thayer more than I do, I'm proven wrong and I'm OBSESSED. His romance with Sutton, even thought told in past tense, is definitely more interesting than Emma's with Ethan. I can actually feel the love they had for each other. I'm going to feel so sorry for him when he finds out Sutton is dead. Hopefully he doesn't relapse.

Wow! That is my response to the book.

My latest theory;

I have been try to think of a suspect that would make scenes that is not obvious like Ethan.
My idea is Mrs. Mercer. Her first name is Kristin so their might have been a file that Emma did not notice in the file cabinet after she found Becky's. after all she had to frantically book the folder back when the nurse arrived.

Mrs. Mercer is one of the few Emma has not investigated (like most of the parents, but she is one of the important parents that is in every book). She does not have the worried reaction Emma and Mr. Mercer were afraid of in the first chapter of Seven Minutes (you can read the sample on itunes)

And this quote spooks me out.
"Sometimes you have to move on from someone you care about ... Sometimes you have to admit a relationship can't be fixed. That no matter how much you want to, you can't trust some people." pg. 90 of Cross My Heart, Hope To Die.

Well, I'll see what happens in 29 days.

If you want to know who killed Sutton, just skip to the last book. The first five are a complete waste of time. Here is a synopsis that will apply to each one:

1. Follow Emma as she chooses a suspect and follows them around for the entire book.

2. Suffer through random flashbacks with Sutton that incriminate Emma's suspect and make them appear hella guilty.

3. Rip your hair out and throw fits about Emma and Sutton ignoring every suspicious thing about Ethan, including his anger problems, reluctance to introduce his family and hints that he knew Sutton more than he lets on.

4. Encounter Sutton's last flashback which proves the suspect completely innocent and we are back to square one.

I don't know who killed Sutton but I am so relieved that this will be revealed in the last book. Sara Shepard has an annoying habit of dragging these series out for way longer than need be. I have complete faith that the last book will be amazing and shocking, judging by the thrilling ending of Cross my Heart. Finally, something interesting happened! It would have been preferable to leave this series at four books but UH COURSE she has to drag it out and I will succumb to buying & reading. Oh well. I'm excited to finally get this series over with.

I absolutely loved this book and it finally made my suspicions clear about ethan killing sutton. Its so obvious he killed her and heres why:
1. emma has never asked where he was the night sutton died
2. sutton saw his telescope that night but she never saw him
3. ethan claims he followed mads car when they choked sutton with her necklace because he had a feeling, but he was obviously obsessed with her
4. why was he always at the tennis courts near suttons house when he doesn't live by there. He was obviously waiting for her to befriend her.
5. Why is it that Thayer was runned over the night sutton died. He didnt want Sutton and Thayer together
6. Why hasn't ethan been killed if he knows to much about the secret.
7. He claims the file had information of him hitting his dad but he was released. The file would not have been so thick over one incident so he obviously didn't tell emma everything that was on the file.
8. why was ethan sick the same day nisha died and was late to dinner. He lives right next to nisha so he killed her because nisha found out what was on the file.
9. a note shows up in emmas car when they were on a date. She got there firsg so he obviously put it there

The bottom line is that ethan liked sutton and he is mentally ill which is why he screamed at emma at the party and called her sutton and a slut. He is with emma because she is the next best thing to sutton. He killed sutton and tried to kill thayer.

Sara Shepard, I'm loyal to you. You need to stop saying you will do this many books and end up adding more. I heard now there will be six, keep it a six. Is a good number for a series as this. From the summary then it means we won't find out who the killer is on the fourth book. BUMMER.

I'm continuing to make great book choices.

Sara Shepard continues cock-teasing the shit out of us with her addicting yet frustrating 'novels' that are guiltily intriguing yet for the most part just go around in circles while revealing very little.

However, I have read every single one of them despite understanding this. Just because I'm aware of an addiction, does not mean I'm capable of reasoning my way out of it.

This book wasn't too bad though, a couple more pieces of the twin puzzle were put into place. Damn, Sara Shepard really likes twins. A lot. And using her interpretation of 'mental illness' as a plot device. But I guess you can get away with anything when your books are like crack cocaine.

For those of you who don't know the back story, Emma is pretending to be Sutton, her identical twin who she's never met and who is dead. The narrative is told from the point of view of dead Sutton who is invisibly tethered to her twin presumably until Emma can figure out who killed her. She has been successfully convincing Sutton's friends and family for several books now that she is Sutton, despite having no knowledge of anything they've ever discussed or done before, and no one seems to notice that she's suddenly terrible at tennis. But whatev, its not the worst plot hole I've ever seen.

The appeal of this series, as the same with Pretty Little Liars, is that it is told from the point of view of rich people, living in luxury which is fun to read about. As is the adoring boys that inevitably fall for the (female) protagonist Every.Single.Time. But I expect and appreciate that in my guilty pleasure teen fiction series.

And this series appeals more to me than PLL, because every chapter does not contain at least one instance of the main character doing something stupid and embarrassing herself when it's blatantly obvious to the reader what will happen. Emma also doesn't decide some obviously innocent person must be the killer like all the girls in PLL do when clearly they ave it wrong and oh no there they go embarrassing them again. I'm pretty sure the main demographic of 13 year old girls reading these books can even predict when someone is NOT the killer.

Though other Lying Game books have frustrated me (another thing S. Shepard loves, is liars) because they reveal completely nothing, this latest money maker actually did reveal a few more secrets. (S. Shepard also loves SECRETS!) And I actually have to retract one of my statements from before, I'm not going to claim that Emma NEVER decides the wrong person is the culprit, but she at least manages to not so much act on her stupid ideas and leave them as boring thoughts that Sutton and us have to listen to.

And for the last 3 books at least (I can't remember how many there are, and I'm too lazy to check) I have been pretty sure I know who the real killer and the one leaving notes is (S. Shepard SUPER LOVES anonymous note leavers!) and probably most of you reading this have realized it too, because its not particularly difficult to figure out, but in case you're still in the dark, stop reading this now.

It still hasn't been revealed, and knowing Sara Shepard, it might not ever be, but I'm 98% sure the killer is Ethan, Emma's boyfriend, and who is naturally the only one she trusts. And the only way I'll be convinced he's not the killer is if Emma accuses him of being the killer in the next novel, which could be very likely. We know he has a weird back story, had been bullied by Sutton when she was alive, he's dangerously jealous, and a few other signs I can't remember now but were very clear.

Another thing I wanted to touch upon is how much Sara Shepard loves mental hospitals (I'm not sure many of those are even still around)and she loves crazy people. If I had a nickel for every time someone in her books stole a private medical file only to read that someone they're close to is DANGEROUSLY UNSTABLE I would have probably four or five nickels.

Long story short, not bad.

BAM! What an ending! :O

This review contains spoilers. You’ve been warned!

Even though Pretty Little Liars is much more popular I prefer The Lying Game. It just seems more realistic and the plotline still makes sense while PLL has been dragged for way to long. How many books are there? 14? Wow. That is like worse than all those embarrassing House of Night sequels.

We start the book where we last left things. Sutton and Emma’s mum, Rebecca finally shows up and she is hard to catch. In last book we found out that Mr. and Mrs. Mercer are in fact S&E’s grandparents. Rebecca has had mental issues since she was much younger so she hid Emma from her parents and gave them Sutton. But after five years, she gave up Emma too. The biggest part of this book is about family problems and it was refreshing to read about family drama, rather than about boy trouble.

But Emma still has plenty of boys running around- Ethan, her boyfriend and Thayer (RAWR), Sutton’s ex-boyfriend. Ethan is still dating Emma and I can’t help but think he might be Sutton’s killer, if she is even dead. There were a lot of hints and since Sutton did pull a Lying Game on him, which made him loose his college scholarship, I think he has a real motive. He gives of this creepy vibes and his relationship with Emma seems kind of strange. He is also very jealous of Thayer (double RAWR). Now, Thayer is what a call a perfect future boyfriend. He is a caring, protective, hot mysterious guy who fell in love with Sutton, even though she was a huge bitch to him. But I think she pushed him away because she was afraid of her real feelings towards him.

Since this novel was more focused on family matters, Sutton’s friends were pushed to the background in this novel. They did punk the new girl in school and hosted a party, just like they always do. I think it’s all an excuse to dress up and parade around. Girls finally let one other person into their Lying Game society-Nisha. Nisha has grown on me, when she was helping Emma out with her birth mum, only to later reveal a huge shocker I wasn’t expecting at all.

I seriously hope Seven Minutes in Heaven will be the last instalment because I don’t want TLG to loose it’s charm, just like PLL has. Can’t wait to finally find out what happened to Sutton. Hope Emma has a happy ending and gets her family. She’s been through a lot.

Oh the rants I had while reading this book and even after completing it. I am a Sara Shepard addict and I'm not ashamed to admit it. The Lying Game series I happen to like more than The PLL series simply because the series is so far (AND HOPEFULLY WILL FOREVER BE) shorter and more interesting, plot wise. But every book is so predictable. Emma is going to have a brand new suspect and it absolutely HAD to be them and there is no other explanation that person is a murderer there is no evidence against them it is not at all possible and they had a perfect motive. Then at the end there is absolutely no possible way it could have possibly been that person and Emma was obviously crazy to even imagine it. WAKE UP SUTTON. WAKE UP. I'm not even sure if Sutton is really dead. She could even just be in a coma. But what I'm 100% positive of is that Sara has no fricken clue who killed Sutton. What I'm praying is that there won't be some bs ending like in Pretty Little Liars where Sutton killed Sutton. Because no. That is just not okay. I haven't watched The Lying Game series because I don't want to ruin the book. Because I get so frustrated when movies or shows don't follow the book. Just no. When I finish the series I probably will watch the show, just because I won't be able to not. I am praying that Seven Minutes In Heaven is the LAST Lying Game book. It is necessary. It is time for the series to end. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee don't turn this into PLL. And as to who I suspect killed Sutton (or, my opinion, who put Sutton in a coma that caused an out of body type thing) I have absolutely no idea. I know it was someone. It had to be foul play, there's nothing else it could possibly be. It wouldn't make sense. I don't think Sutton attempted suicide because when Sutton was Sutton it was Sutton time and Sutton loved Sutton and everyone loved Sutton and the people who didn't love Sutton were a waste of space because Sutton was the immortal shiznat who would live forever because she was Sutton. I don't think she would commit suicide. I read somewhere that it could be and there reasons were spot on and it made sense but I'm not sure. I don't suspect anyone really. And to anyone trying to point the finger on Ethan..... NO JUST NO GO AWAY GET OUTTA MY FACE Ethan would never do that. Ethan is perfect.

I loved this one, and cant wait for the sixth. But there are somethings I am DYING to talk about and would love feedback, because none of my friends read this series and I have no one to talk about my theories with.

Okay, Sutton's killer. (If she is, in fact, dead. And not in some state of comatose or something) Ethan anybody? He had slight motive to kill Sutton because of the Lying Game prank they pulled on him. He is never suspected because Emma loves him. But Nishas dead. And she knew something. Probably something about Ethan seeing as he has a file in the psych ward at the hospital, where her dad is a psychiatrist. When Emma told Nisha about how she found out Ethan's file was nothing too serious just a family problem, Nisha went to open her mouth to say something, but kept her comments to herself. And now her mouth is shut for good. Ethan stayed home "sick" the day Nisha was murdered and he is her next door neighbor so he could easily have gotten into her backyard to kill her in her pool. If he was really so "sick" he wouldnt of attended dinner at the Mercer house. He also claimed he was late to dinner because of his mother. Or was he late because he was busing killing Nisha? Being at dinner with the Mercers while Nisha's dad finds her dead body is Ethan's alibi.
But how would Ethan know Nisha knew something? And if it is Ethan, I feel like someone would have to be working with him since Emma hears noises and feels like she is being watched everytime she is alone with Ethan.

Yet, I feel like this is maybe all coincidental and Sara Shepard wants us to think its Ethan although it is not. We've run low on suspects seeing as Laurel, Mads, Char, Becky, Nisha, Ted, the Twitter Twins and Thayer have been cleared. So I can almost guarantee in book 6 that Emma will begin to suspect Ethan and become closer to Thayer. (And its a total Sara Shepard move to have Emma sleep with Ethan in book 5, and then have her suspect him to be her sister's murderer in book 6)Perhaps someone is framing Ethan? Will Emma tell Thayer who she really is?

Something else that keeps bothering me is that does anybody remember in the first book was Char's dad was supposed to be out of town, but Emma saw him in the canyon when she first arrived in Arizona? I hope Sara explains this further in book six. It all seems very fishy to me, and although it was a small detail i believe it might be very important to the story line. After all, Emma was strangled in Chars kitchen that one night, and it would be extremely easy for Mr Chamberlain to pull that one off. But what would Mr. Chamberlain's motive be?

So basically, my theory summed up is that the killer is either Mr. Chamberlain or Ethan. Sorry this was so long, but thank you for reading if you did. I would love to hear some of your opinions! Book 5 left off with a total cliffhanger, I think it was the best ending to all of the books yet. Cant wait for number 6, July 30th cant get here fast enough!

Caution: MAJOR spoilers ahead!

"When I first started this, I was just trying to survive. But now...I feel like I know Sutton, Ethan. I know it sounds weird, but I feel like she's here sometimes, still with me, cheering me on. I love her, and I can't let her down. She deserves justice." She shook her head again. ''I'm either going to solve this thing, or I'm going to die trying."

This might be my favorite book in the series next to the first, FINALLY we're starting to get somewhere! I'm pretty sure the next book is the last (not holding my breath though), if it is, a lot is gonna happen with the way this one ended.

Don't get me wrong, the same pattern happened: suspect is found innocent by the end of the book BUT enough went on that I didn't really care.

Is it just me, or does Ethan and Emma's relationship get more awkward the closer they get? All I felt when I read their scenes was pure awkward. When they had sex (in his car no less! Real classy) I wasn't like "awww" I was more like "ewww.....". There's just something so awkward about the two of them that makes me cringe at the thought of them.....yeah....

Speaking of Ethan, what a sketchy guy. I'm torn between believing he's the murderer and thinking he's not because its just getting so obvious. "You haven't changed at all, Sutton" he spat. "You're just a selfish slut, just like you've always been." Umm? Ok. The psych record made me lol. But what really did it was the ending. When Nisha was killed and Ethan was convenietly at home during the time she would have been killed. Sigh.

Thayer is just so jbsjgdjgdvdjvss. The way Emma kept leading him on though was not cool. I know she was kind of confused with her feelings for him she totally was crushing on him and meant to kiss him don't even but she knows how much it was probably killing him to have 'Sutton' seem interested one second and then push him away the next. I'm glad he finally noticed that something was off about her, though I wish Emma would just tell him the truth already herself.

Overall, not awful. A little cheesy at times but I'm ready for the end!

"You know, one of the things I learned in rehab that turned out not to be a total cliché is that you can't control other people. The best you can do is be honest with the people you love and hope that they'll care enough about you to listen." *sigh* *SWOON* HE'S SO PERFECT.

Enfim, vou descobrir no próximo volume.

This series is really intense and it always keeps me guessing. The book slowly reveals information but it still keeps you wondering who the killer is. As soon as we have a suspect we discover that they aren't the killer.

I can't wait to see how this series will wrap up. I honestly have no idea who the killer is and I think it will be a shock once everything is revealed. There was a massive cliffhanger at the end of this book which was really unexpected and left me really shocked.

I prefer this series to the PLL series as the PLL series has been dragged out for too long. I am currently reading book 8 and there are still more to read. I'm glad that this series is shorter and I can't wait to see how it will conclude.

This series is so good, I'm in love!! We finally got to learn more about Becky, and Emma's relationship with Ethan came to a beautiful (though not quite clean) peak. It is a bit heartbreaking to see Sutton watching her friends and yearning to be with them, but at least she gets to feel it all through Emma! The flashbacks are wonderful. My only issue was, I feel like the author is beginning to drag this on for too long. A book per suspect is a bit of a lot; I expected it to be completed in two books originally. I'm not really going to complain though, lol. These books have just enough suspense and solutions to keep me interested! I absolutely recommend for mystery lovers!

I cant wait for this book to come out! i just finished reading #4, and now, as always, i want to know what happened next.

Does anyone think they know who Sutton's killer is? thats what i want to know.

at the end of the book, i ended up making a list of possible suspects based on what we dont know about where they were the night sutton died. here it is:

Becky (duh.)

Ethan (did emma ever ask where he was the night Sutton died? Sara would end up having him be the killer)

Garret (unlikely, since he still tried to sleep with Sutton/Emma)

Nisha (very unlikely, since she was at the sleepover)

Charlotte (she was with Mads, but that doesn't mean she was there the whole night. Still, unlikely that she killed Sutton)

Madeline(she was with Char, upset about her dad. i doubt she killed sutton.)

Gabbi and Lili (highly doubt it)

Mr. Chamberlin(eh.)

Mrs. Mercer (just for the heck of it)

Mr. Vega (he's violent enough to do it)

right now, im leaninng towards Mr. Vega, Mr. Chamberlin, and ethan. ethan seems like he would do it, if he had some mental disorder.

what do you think?

I really like Lying Game series.. But I think Sara might've dragged it too long!! Please.. We just wanna know who killed Sutton!! **SPOILERS ALERT!** Okay, after reading this series, my suspicion is on Ethan. Why? Because... :
1) Emma NEVER asked him where he was the night Sutton died
2) He obviously had a crush on Sutton and was kinda obsessed with her.
3) He could've hacked into Sutton's Facebook page and replied to Emma's message(Book 1) and lured her to Tucson, since he's good with computer and stuff.
4) He might want to get revenge on Sutton, because of the Lying Game prank about his scholarship.
5) He could've hacked the Chamberlain's house alarm system.
6) The killer didnt do anything when Ethan knew everything about the real Emma.
ANNDDD... He obviously killed Nisha!! Since he was "home sick" and was late for the Mercer's dinner.. So... Anyone agree with me??
