I won this book through the first reads program... Quite a while ago, in fact. I'm sorry it took me so long to read and review!

There is a lot to be said for a person who can live their life unapologetically. There is also a lot to be said for being able to take responsibility for your own actions and the trajectory that your life takes. Ben Spencer has taken both of these topics to heart and spun a fascinating novel upon the crux of these matters... What would it take to end temperance in a smal

thanks to good reads first reads i was given the chance to experience author ben spencer. temperence unraveling is an intriguing weave of characters. meredith remains my favorite, a woman feeling trapped in a luke warm marriage as the child wrangler while her husband leaves her to the righteous hands of her overbearing father in law. jason is a man who likes to be challenged and who is used to getting his way. jason has deemed it his mission to overturn his small home town by playing antagonist ...more

I started this novel early summer of 2012 and could not put it down. I never read a contempirary book with this subject matter and found Ben's writing style and story development going back and forth to the back story to be quite interesting. Keep it going Ben because I am going to read everything you write!

The moral tales and individual perspectives in this novel were quite a range of ages, which is to be commended. While I worked to keep a non-judgmental attitude while reading, there is not a single one of the characters I'd be pleased to call friend. Maybe I'm just not a small town person at heart, and I am only an occasional drinker, so didn't feel the angst of the imbibers or of the dried up.
