Sreebala K Menon is a Malayali author, associate film director, and filmmaker who won the 2005 Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for 'Best Humor' for her book 19, Canal Road.
This was a very entertaining read . Full of funny anecdotes about the author's life as a paying guest at 19 Canal Road, Chennai. The book first came out in 2003, and in the epilogue it is mentioned that 16 years have passed . So I assume the events took place in the late eighties . I don't think I will forget the various people caricatured with precision and humor, especially Mami, Julie the dog , Jayanthi the maid , dance teacher , the young priest and the Japanese girl . I could also brush up my broken, spoken Tamil via this book.
Would recommend this one to all Malayalam readers.
Will definitely read it again , some time in future .
A nice recollection of the time the author spent in Chennai. A host of interesting characters that you would see no where else. A funny take on normal everyday things.
