This book takes you through the seasons in the country with Mrs Apple and her family of animals. We loved this from the start. There is a detailed map of the cottage and garden showing where all the animals in the story live. The illustrations are beautiful, great observations of animals and nature, they would make a lovely colouring book! There are two or three illustrations on each page which would make this an appealing book for a child to read to themselves.

Another book from my childhood and read many times over. Still have my original copy and read even as an adult! There is an innocent simplicity that will appeal to younger children. I am not sure that the fact that I have pekingese now is not a subconscious influence from this litte book!

My favourite childhood book. I still have my original copy, which looks quite battered now! This due to the fact that it has been re-read so many times over 26 years.

Loved this, loved to read it to my kids. Favorite line, well one of them, is.... Little Tooty-Pooty (very full of birthday cake).

"EILEEN BELL was a prolific natural artist who was still applying paint to canvas into her nineties. Her 2003 retrospective at the Chappel Galleries, near Colchester, showed her to be a rich colourist, producing still-lifes with a quirky perspective and sea and beach scenes inspired by the coast of Suffolk where she lived latterly.

She was born in Clifton, Bristol, in 1907, elder daughter of John B
