In't kort: de ondertitel 'the most dramatic sports finishes of all time' maakt uiteraard veel duidelijk. De auteur neemt ons mee naar 50 memorabele wedstrijden en seizoenen, waarbij het venijn steeds in de staart zit.
Mijn oordeel: uiteraard focust dit boek op American sports, al krijgen we ook een beetje uit de Olympische Spelen voorgeschoteld (basketfinale 1972, ijshockeyfinale 1980). Leuk boek, mooie foto's, van enkele dingen had ik al gehoord, sommige had ik zelfs gezien, maar overall veel trivia bijgeleerd. Bij het boek zit ook een dvd, waarop we enkele van de aangehaalde wedstrijden kunnen zien. Mooi gedaan.
Eindoordeel: ***1/2

Classic Kirk Gibson homerun call from Jack Buck. Just amazing.
"It's a long fly ball to deep right field, this is gonna be a home run. Unbelievable! And the Dodgers win 5 -4" I get goosebumps just writing this as I can hear the call in my mind. I can see Eckersly slump over after throwing the 3-2 backdoor changeup. I can see Gibson limping around the bases pumping his fist. I can see Tommy Lasorda running and jumping out of the dugout. Just an incredible scene at the World Series.
