Really interesting ethnography. Discusses some of the major issues in 90s China, including the One Child Policy, enforcement of laws, and even shifts towards a free market. Only downside is that there is little to no fieldwork in the book, which is unusual for an ethnography. Nevertheless, Anagnost uses various discourses, including literature, film, and newspapers, to frame her arguments.
