The subtitle of this book is Principles and Practices Inspired by "The Family: A Proclamation to the World". It is a textbook produced by the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University, including the work of 125 authors (BYU faculty and individuals with professional and personal experience in family life).

I picked this up from the BYU Bookstore a few years ago, and it's taken me that long to read it. I didn't take that long to read it because it isn't good--it's a textbook, so it just took me a little while to do my homework.

This book relies on scholarly research to provide helps to families and individuals in many varied circumstances. Some of the topics covered include:
-the covenant of marriage
valuing and nurturing children (you can bet I've read these chapters a few times!)
-overcoming addiction
-wayward children
-the benefits of marrage
-mental illness
-maintaining and strengthening the family

This book is a great resource for any families reference shelf. I refer to this (and it's earlier companion volume Strengthening Our Families: An In-Depth Look at the Proclamation on the Family) fairly regularly. It's a great resource for anyone who is trying to raise a family according to Proclamation-based principles.

I have learned so much from incorporating this book in my daily studies. This is a must have book for families that want to base their foundation on firm moral standing. I know I will keep this book for reference and give it to many of my friends and family members.

So, so good!! It took me several months to read, but so worth it! It is a text used at BYU, not unlike required texts I read for many of my family science classes. This one is more recent however and includes articles and essays on issues relevant to families today. It covered an array of topics and treated them both academically and spiritually. Highly recommended!

I just finished reading chapter 37 of this book for a class and it was EXCELLENT. I'm going to have to find the whole book and get reading. The chapter I read was specific to in-law relationships and had a lot of good information. I can see this being a source I return to through the years as my roles and relationships change with those in my immediate and extended families.

When I first started reading this I would have given it more stars. It has some great practical suggestions. And I am now finding it harder to deal with apologists in some of the narrower views of the proclamation. I had to put this one down and I'm not sure I will pick it back up.

Another textbook for one of my classes. A great resource for short article/essays on the family. Two of my professors were editors, and both of them were great teachers. It has essays on coping with moody teens, adoption, single-parent dating and remarriage, coping with suicide, etc. Also a great resource for families.

Very interesting. A more temporal look at The Proclamation, supported by current research and studies on families.

Collection of chapters and supporting essays by topic. Meant as a text but so good. Easy to read since it is broken into segments. I added this to my personal library I liked it so much.
