Comparing this author to Binchy, Karon or Pilcher is misleading and rather an insult to these great writers. I think what the author was attempting to convey in this book was a simpler time (it's set in the 1950's), her love of God, living the Christian life, happiness and harmony of the human races. She did succeed in sugarcoating life, however it was sappy, stereotypical and unrealistic.
