Captain John R. Hughes' exploits in tracking down horse thieves led not only to his earning the enmity of the Wild Bunch, the desperados led by Butch Cassidy, but also to his becoming a Texas Ranger. He served mainly along the Texas-Mexico border, where the Rio Grande bandits gave him the name of "Border Boss." Originally published in 1942.

A close friend of Hughes, Jack Martin went on to author The Border Boss, in 1942 telling of his exploits while with the Rangers.

An easy read with plenty of good stories about Texas Ranger Capt. Hughes in the old West. Skimmed some chapters but overall an enjoyable boos.

This is a good book, somewhat dated, of the career of John R. Hughes, one of the four great Texas Ranger captains. The chapters reveal certain incidents in his life, but pretty much ends when he retires from the Texas Rangers in 1915 - although he lived to 93 years of age.
