Not as good as 'jump start your brain' by Doug Hall, but alot of the techniques are the same, and the stories of hstorical creative geniuses are pretty sweet. an easy read.

This is a good book for a teacher or someone who intends to actively participate in it; simply reading the book is fine but limiting. The ideas and strategies for improving your creativity in a variety of settings sound great and I suspect they will work well. Still, you need to put the techniques to practice to really benefit from this book.

I am moving house at the moment, and not feeling settled enough to be following the instructions: I read them and feel they should work and I ho

It offers some solid advice on creativity, however it is very repetitive (could be 1/3 the length it is). It is full of information that can easily be found through a quick google search or reading any other book on the subject. Michalko has written plenty of other books and articles with the same information.

Required reading for a class. A damn slog. A handfull of good tips spread out and repeated over and over. Here's how he says to be creative: basically mad libs style, take a bunch of things mix them around several ways, see if you can figure out a way to connect them, mix them around again, grab different things at random, and see if you can connect them or see how it maybe sparks a new thought and connect it to something else, until you've become a schizophrenic. That's how I felt by the end of ...more

Michael Michalko provides a good overview of creative thinking techniques. The book explains how to use different perspectives to generate new ideas and insights. It provides practical advice on how to generate more and more varied ideas. The book draws on historical examples to explain how geniuses view things differently.

Cracking Creativity includes great ideas for how to develop better creative thinking habits. It is mostly about examining the habits and practices of historical creative geniuses, such as Einstein and da Vinci, but the author does a nice job of organizing and presenting them. I'd recommend this book to readers who want to dust off their creativity and learn a few new ways to solve problems.

This book changed the way I thought about creativity. I thought most creative people were just born creative. Now I realize a person can be creative just through hard work. Cracking Creativity delineates and explains different creative thinking strategies and ways of thinking. This is a handy reference to use for confronting problems requiring unique and effective solutions.

Very specific instructions about how to get your mind in the right place to stimulate the creation of new ideas. One of my favorite anecdotes is that Einstein was asked what he would do if a comet was going to come crashing into Earth in one hour. He responded that he would spend 55 minutes defining the problem and 5 minutes working on a solution.

This book will extend the techniques presented in his other book, "Thinkertoys", with a lot more details and examples. Worth reading, it will expand your mind with a lot of techniques for organizing information and insights about how the brains works.
