High up in the mountains lived an old, old Tigress who had been on Earth so long that she had mastered the art of transforming herself into an old lady.

The Emperor of the Jungle as an old woman? Hooked. The Auntie Tigress tale is the centrepiece of this book, but there are a total of three stories here with majestic illustrations from the great Taiwanese artist, Eva Wang.

Fantastical collection of chinese folk tales. Perhaps a little scary for the very young. But not as creepy as the original Grims brother's tales.

I enjoyed these folk tales from China, I thought that each one had a different quality to it which made them enjoyable. The stories were interesting and made you think and rush to turn the page to see what would happen next.

For the classroom I think this would be a great addition since each story contained a hero from a different background and where different genders. The languages used was also great and could really push the boundaries of a child's vocabulary. I also think that each story had

This is a stunning work with illustrations that reach into the text itself. Every page is framed with intricate detail, bringing the words into gorgeous cultural context. The tales are beautifully told, and there is also a reference section where readers can learn about certain cultural symbols and objects found in the illustrations.

A very high-quality book that's wonderful for any child's personal library, and highly recommended for a school.

"Auntie Tigress" is the popular Chinese version of the story of Red Riding Hood. In the second story, a simple fisherman outwits a greedy merchant. In the third story, a girl refuses the rich suitors that her father has chosen, and instead looks for a hard-working, honest man.

Eva Wand has created lovely, detailed illustrations for these traditional tales. Ages 5-12.
