I am a complete beginner. For me, this book is so abridged that the directions and explanations for techniques often left me mystified. I kept wishing for a few more sentences or a few more photos.
That said, I found the stitch names very helpful. I might come back to this book and figure out which stitch I need, and thus armed with the proper nomenclature, find a YouTube video on it. For me, video is really the best learning method for sewing.
