I never thought I'd be reading books re. the Civil War as a leisure time activity, but a recent visit to Gettysburg prompted that. This was my favorite read re. the topic. Written about 30 years after his service, James Wright paints a not only a wonderful picture of his war time experience, but life in Minnesota before and after the events of 1861-1865.
