Initially, I was irritated by the know-it-all attitude and atheist mindset of the author. But after reading more of the book, I realise he is consistently rational and superlatively futuristic in his thoughts. Bewildered by the fact that an Indian has such a breadth of knowledge in so many areas and can think on his own.
Though I do not agree with some of the things that the author says, I cannot deny the fact that this book is a piece of work. Collected wisdom of one man.
Recommended for all who are inquisitive about a wide range of topics.

Hints for self-culture is my first book on the intellectual peregrination where I learned not only about the importance of inculcating intellectual pursuits, aspirations, and passion for the learning but also an ethical lifestyle per se without the pursuit of divine element, which would seem redundant, though. However, this sacred element would descend on such person uninvitedly, when self-interest barely exists and silence is her language when one is not occupied in the world at large.

I still have to catch up with other two books Mr. Har Dayal recommended!

I would invite you guys to read: The ending of time (a dialogue between J Krishnamurti and Dr. Bohm), and Ek Onkar Satnam by 'Oso'.

Happy reading.

Too much information is a noise. A personal diary shouldn't have been made into a book (which is what I feel).

The author is a revolutionary and it is very important to understand the grounds on which it was written. It was a time when not many people were having the outlook to face the world and this book is all about that- why studying and having idea of everything is important.

This book lacks the design and literature advances. Examples are overloaded. I hope I don't receive any hate for this review.

This Book is an working manual means while reading this book you will understand what work to do, how to do, what time duration to do it.

Self culture (swadhyay) means to know that aspect of your life which directly or indirectly effect your life. To get ready so that things which are directly or indirectly effecting us so that we can perform better. It's is very necessary because if you are not regularly increasing your knowlege your knowledge is not dedrading it remains degraded.

Why this book is written?
:-- This is actually written for those who wanted to be
intellectual in future.
Book for younger generation (18-36 ) years.

This books focous on 4 aspects intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and ethical. (The real reason that you are studying to attain you potential).

Writer of this book is polymath and a genius.
After seeing writer study range it will take atleast 200 years to attain those knowledge if we are going to study these separately.

Read this book atleast 8 times.

Slightly dated and has communist undertones back when it was cooler and its Ill effects not known. But a great read for the youth and how to seek knowledge and become a better citizen for the planet and people.

Still relevant, the author made a case for India’s independence in USA and made Americans aware of brutal British colonization of India.
