I remember taking this out of various libraries multiple times before I finally was able to buy my own copy- probably in the early 60s. It has the most elegant line drawings of each fashion plus pages showing details of fabric designs, hats, hair and accessories. Where appropriate there are also tiny back views or clarifications of cut or detail to further explain an outfit. The scope is great going from ancient Egypt to the 1950s. One of my favorites and a first stop when I want to refresh my memory quickly about an era.

I love this book so much! It really began my interest in historical fashion when I first looked at it when I was very young. I remember looking at the plates over and over again before I was old enough to read and understand the accompanying information and since then it has only gotten more interesting to me. To say this is one of my favorite books in the world doesn’t even begin to cover it!

This book is a solid reference for beginners in the fashion industry and a nice overview of clothing and accessories from different eras. God bless and have a great day!
