While the mystery part seemed a little contrived I appreciate this series more for the ambiance than the mystery. Love the background about the millinery trade and I adore Brenda's circle of quirky friends and neighbors. One quibble- I just can't picture the dog, "Jackhammer" as a yorkie type as depicted on the cover. He seems more like a terrier (Jack Russell?) to me.
Barbara Jaye Wilson has worked as a potter, painter, resume typer, backup singer, grahic designer, and miliner. The first book in her Brenda Midnight mystery series, Death Brims Over, was nominated for a Agatha Award. She occasionally stops writing, rolls out the buckram and hatblocks, and turns her Grennwich Village apartment into a milinary studio.
