3 stars & 3/10 hearts. This is a Martine book I read very rarely and which somehow never really interested me… I liked the cousin, and the greyhound, and Patapouf did add a little bit of humour, but it was much more of “look what Martine did” feel than a “hey, come do it with Martine,” like most of the books are.
Contains illustrations of little girls in very short dresses.
Every year I start by reading children's book, remembering the happiness I felt when I read my Children stories, and now missing my two Granddaughters... Martine's stories are wonderful, as they help build, in the reader, a whole universe of beauty and harmony, creating a very special atmosphere.
I totally recommend these children's books to establish peace and beauty in one's mind, in the midst of these times of trouble!

Rereading Martine's books is always pleasant - especially this one, which is among the oldest ones - one of the first I got to read when I was really young... Looking at the pictures, one can see it is one of the first, also because the drawings changed though the years and now both the style of clothes and the precision of the drawings is different.
This year, as usually, I decided to go back to my childhood and read something that filled my heart and mind with lovely images and inspiration: Anita's books (in Portuguese, that is, in the original french it's called Martine!!).
This is Anita's adventure at her Uncle's farm, where she learns to ride. Horse's and Pony's are part of this adventure which ends with Anita coming first in the Obstacle competition... Funny enough, for me, the best of the book are the bucolic images at the Uncle's Farm...
Oh bon sang...
I read this book in Dutch but could not find the right cover. I refuse to refer to the main character is Martine, to me she will always be Tiny as in "Tiny leert paardrijden". When I was young - like at a Tiny appropriate age - I was obsessed with horses. So when Tiny has a book about learning to ride a horse I had to have it! She was my childhood hero. The girl with all the hobbies and experiences! The pictures in this book were very pretty. Sure the stories are always short and simple but as a picture book this a girl's dream come through. A beautiful horse that "looked" soft to stroke, a cute dog. Yes, Tiny and her horsey adventure was a definite winner for me.
