About the author

William Carr Peel, ThM, is president of Foundations for Living, a 501c3 organization committed to helping men and women discover their purpose and potential, and impact their everyday world for Christ. He has trained thousands of leaders and coached hundreds of individuals to discover their calling and reach their God-given dreams.

In his warm yet challenging style, he delivers real encouragement and practical exhortation that helps people:

* Discover and follow their destiny
* Recognize the presence of God in their everyday lives
* Uncover their potential and purpose in life
* Make their life count for God seven days a week
* Be a witness without witnessing
* Draw interest to, rather than fire for their faith in the workplace
* Become the husbands, fathers, wives and mothers God intended them to be

Bill loves to encourage and build into the lives of men, and for the last 25 years has focused a great deal of his ministry toward men. He served several years on Promise Keepers’ leadership training faculty and national speakers’ team. His book, What God Does When Men Pray, a Silver Medallion winner, was Promise Keepers’ first study guide and has sold over 200,000 copies.

As the former director of the Paul Tournier Institute, Peel co-authored the highly successful, “Saline Solution” continuing medical education course with his friend Dr. Walt Larimore. Together they've taught thousands of healthcare professionals around the world how to effectively communicate faith issues to their patients.

In the award-winning Going Public with Your Faith, Bill and Dr. Larimore translate this course into principles the average worker can use to impact his or her workplace with the gospel. According to reviews, this book “flies in the face of almost everything you’ve been taught about evangelism.” Bill, who doesn’t consider himself a gifted evangelist, says, “If Christians can grasp how simple it is to actually be a witness to their co-workers and understand how truly interested God is in their daily work, I believe we would see revival in our land.”

Bill received his bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University and earned a masters degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife Kathy have three adult sons and live in Dallas, Texas.

And did we mention he loves to fly fish.

I thought this book had some good ideas about how to share Christ with others and I found it to be helpful.

GOING PUBLIC
1. SPIRITUAL ECONOMICS .
EVANGELISM IS NOT AN EVENT BUT A RELATIONAL PROCESS, & GOD HAS GIFTED EACH ONE OF US TO PLAY A CRITICAL ROLE IN DRAWING MEN AND WOMEN TO HIMSELF
2. CALLED TO THE WORKPLACE
YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEAVE THE WORKPLACE TO KNOW THE JOY OF BEING USED BY GOD. HE WANTS TO USE YOU RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE
3. IS ANYONE HUNGRY? .
AS CHRISTIANS, WE HAVE WHAT PEOPLE WANT. AND WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO COMMUNICATE IN WAYS THAT THEY CAN UNDERSTAND.
4. EARNING THE RIGHT TO BE HEARD
IF WE WANT PEOPLE TO PAY ATTENTION TO OUR FAITH, WE MUST PAY ATTENTION TO THE TYPE OF PEOPLE WE ARE.
5. KEEP IT SIMPLE .
BEING JESUS' WITNESS IN THE WORKPLACE IS SIMPLE AND BEGINS WITH COMMON COURTESIES - NOT TECHNIQUES AND STRATEGIES TO COMMUNICATE THE GOSPEL MESSAGE
6. FOSTERING CURIOSITY .
LESS IS MORE IN YOUR SPEECH. LEARN TO SAY LESS ABOUT YOUR FAITH AND ACCOMPLISH MORE BY USING STORIES TOLD IN LANGUAGE THAT'S WINSOME AND UNDERSTANDABLE
7. BUILDING STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
EVANGELISM IS A TEAM EFFORT. NO ONE CAN DO IT ALONE. LEARN TO WORK WITH OTHERS FOR MAXIMUM SPIRITUAL IMPACT.
8. EVANGELISM BY WALKING AROUND
IF WE WANT TO INFLUENCE PEOPLE, WE CAN CLOSE THE DISTANCE BY SPENDING TIME WITH THEM AND ENJOYING COMMON GROUND
9. HOW TO WALK THROUGH AN OPEN DOOR
AS HEARTS SOFTEN, GOD WILL CREATE A DESIRE IN PEOPLE TO DISCUSS SPIRITUAL REALITIES THAT WILL CREATE HEART-READINESS FOR BIBLICAL TRUTH
10. THE WHOLE TRUTH .
PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE DETAILS OF THE GOSPEL MESSAGE, SO LEARN TO GIVE A CLEAR, SUCCINT EXPLANATION
11. FACING OBJECTIONS
TURN OBJECTIONS INTO OPPORTUNITIES BY ANSWERING WITH GRACE AND HUMILITY
12. MAKING THE MISSION POSSIBLE
EVANGELISM IS A PROCESS - A LONG PROCESS - THAT DEPENDS MORE ON PRAYER THAN ANYTHING ELSE WE DO.
13. THE START-UP
COMMUNITY, EVANGELISM, LEARNING, RESPONSIBILITY, WORSHIP ( ACTS 2:42)
SALVATION IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF ETERNAL LIFE
14. THE ETERNAL IMPACT ONE LIFE AT A TIME
YOU, WORKING WITHIN THE BODY OF CHRIST, CAN MAKE AN ETERNAL DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF YOUR CO-WORKERS.
GOING PUBLIC WITH YOUR FAITH
1. PROCEED SLOWLY 2. ASK TO SPEAK FURTHER 3. BE SENSITIVE 4. CHECK IF THEY ARE STILL WITH YOU 5. REGULATE DOSAGE 6. DON'T REACT NEGATIVELY

More than anything else, I think this book clearly helps us understand what it truly means to live a Christian life. When we talk about evangelism, we do tend to focus on giving the gospel message and not really caring about the person we're sharing the message to. We're like spiritual gunslingers shooting everyone in sight aiming to convert people. We should really ask ourselves what our motivation is in sharing the gospel. Is it that we love people and that we want them to hear the gospel or we just want to grow our church? We should be compelled to share the gospel because of love. That we love them enough to share the good news of everlasting life. Somebody once said that it's hard to believe evangelists because what they say is so different with what they're saying. I think he's right.

Overall, I like this book. It really challenges one to re-evaluate how they see their life as a Christian from a non-Christian's point of view. What I didn't like about this book (which is something they do admit) is that they tend to focus more on lifestyle evangelism, showing the world how loving Christians are, and postpones sharing the gospel until “you have earned the right to share the gospel.” I do agree with that up to a point but I think it fails to realize the urgency of our situation. Everyday 150,000 people die. I'm sure most of them didn't know that they would die. This is a real concern which should drive us to share the gospel whenever we can.

Those who share the gospel just for converting people should read the book (and read the Bible more intently). We all need to learn that as Christians, we should love everybody which is what evangelism is all about.

I enjoyed the concept that we must live lives that reflect Christ so the people we work with can know Jesus through us.

A great way to explain how to be a christian at work without beating people on the head with a bible.

Excellent practical book on evangelism - without reducing it to a formula. You can tell this isn't just theory, but something they've lived, trained, and gotten real-world feedback on.
