What?? I have several volumes of Dutch nursery rhymes, or kleuterrijmpjes/kinderrijmpjes, as they are called here. And I'm pretty certain I came across f.e. German nursery rhymes as well. To appropriate the nursery rhyme as "an English genre" is preposterous* in my view.


*One Dutch translation of preposterous happens to be 'ongerijmd', the literal meaning of which is
