Wanda Witch doesn't want to go to school EVER AGAIN! She is always in trouble with her teacher Miss Foulbreath.
But little witches have to go to school to learn to read, according to Cat-a-bogus, so Wanda Witch decides to prove that she can read. She just has to read the spell that turns a prince into a frog! A pinch of this and a pinch of that and VOILA! a frog! And then another frog...and another...and another....
Good thing Cat-a-bogus is there to get rid of all the frogs.

About the author
Rose Impey

When she first left school she worked in a bank, but soon realised that this was not for her; so she decided to go back to school and then went on to college, where she trained to be a teacher. She later taught in a Junior school in Leicester.
Rose has two grown-up daughters. While her children were small, Rose developed her interest in children's books through reviewing, bookselling, storytelling and giving talks to parents and teachers.
The Impey family have a dog called Holly, which has also become a star. In 1988 Rose was short-listed for the Smarties Children's Book Prize for 'Desperate for a Dog'. Most of her stories are based on her own experiences either as a teacher or a parent. As a family they like jokes, and this often provides Rose with the ideas for her books.
She spends a lot of time visiting schools to read her work. Her books are widely published worldwide, including the United States, Australia, France, Denmark, Germany and Spain. Rose enjoys eating, talking, swimming and reading, although not necessarily in that order!

Titchy-Witch and the Frog Fiasco (original British edition)
Dismayed and angry that her teacher Miss Foulbreath only ever saw her infractions, and not those of the other students in her class, Titchy Witch decided she was done with school. The family feline, Cat-a-bogus, informed her that she needed to be able to read to cast spells, but Titchy Witch wasn't so sure. Taking down her mother's spell book, once home, she tried to turn her pet vulture, Victor, into a frog, with some pretty disastrous results. Fortunately Cat-a-bogus was there to lend a paw, and our witchy heroine learned her lesson after all...
The fourth entry in author Rose Impey and illustrator Katharine McEwen's twelve-volume Titchy-Witch series, Titchy-Witch and the Frog Fiasco once again takes a common childhood experience—namely, the feelings of resentment at receiving punishment at school, and the feeling that it is unfair—and gives it a magical setting. The central action here, of using magic when one is not yet ready, is not uncommon in stories of this sort, but it is handled with humor and heart in the simple text and amusing illustrations. As with previous entries in the series, I loved Cat-a-bogus, and appreciated many of the little visual details. This title was published in the US as Wanda Witch and Too Many Frogs —one of four Titchy-Witch books brought over to the states—and I will read that volume next, to compare and contrast. Recommended to beginning readers who enjoy witchy fare, as well as to fans of this witchy character.

An easy read about titchy the witch who always gets caught out misbehaving at school. However, when she tries to cast a spell she’s unable to read how to do it as she never listens to her teacher! After it all goes wrong her cat helps her to fix it and teaches her to listen to her teacher at school.

Originally published in the UK as Titchy-Witch and the Frog Fiasco, this beginning reader from Scholastic—Level 3 in their Scholastic Reader system, indicating the presence of larger "chunks" of text (as opposed to shorter sentences)—explores a classic theme in witchy tales, in the form of a little magic-maker who attempts a spell beyond her capabilities and knowledge. Fortunately, Wanda has her family's trusty feline companion, Cat-a-bogus to come to her aid, when she gets into trouble...
As with other entries in the twelve-volume Titchy Witch series, of which this is the fourth, Wanda Witch and Too Many Frogs pairs an engaging and humorous tale of magical hi-jinks with amusing illustrations that ably capture the humor. Unlike Wanda Witch and the Bullies , the previous title in the series published in the US—in total, four titles were made available stateside—there weren't many changes here, from the original. I read the two side by side, and found that other than a few vocabulary substitutions—Mom instead of Mum, "she tried, anyway" instead of "she had a go"—they were almost identical. Leaving that aside, this was an entertainingly witchy tale, and a worthy follow-up to its predecessors. Recommended to fans of the character, and to beginning readers who enjoy stories about witches.

This is a nice book that tells about a story about a girl that is always getting in trouble in school. She eventually gets in trouble for using magic at school and says that she does not want to go school any more. She attempts to use magic at home while not being able to read the spells and get herself in to a fiasco.
This book is appropriate for the age of 6 - 9.

2 1/2 stars. Cute, but rather formulaic. Probably would have more appeal if I were already familiar with the characters.
