I read the book at the end of july and put the mini-fast diet into practice the day after I read the book. By the end of September, I'd lost 20lbs.
The premise is really simple. Fast every day from after dinner till at least 12pm the next day and exercise for at least 45min in a fasted state. Don't eat for at least 2 hours after you've exercised. He also suggests a cup of coffee before exercise but I skipped that. This is a simple concept that is easy to apply, easy to fit into one's lifestyle and one that doesn't involve calorie counting.
I haven’t rated this type of book before but I’ve chosen 5 stars because i like the variety of materials included. This wasn’t a book that i could have read every page of because some information was what I’ve heard before. However, the inclusion of information that i knew and believed lent more credibility to the author. I did read a lot of this book and appreciated the author’s writing style. It was easy to read and understand. I really liked that he included an exercise routine which could be performed at home without any equipment and really touted walking as exercise as well. While i loved that so many recipes were included, it was a bummer that there were no photos. There were other photos in the book, but they were black and white, and i suppose black and white food wouldn’t be very appealing.
Quite a bit of the book consists of anecdotal information and personal stories. Definitely didn't need a whole book for this. There are better books about fasting and the health benefits.
Unfortunately I read another diet book that refutes all these claims very nicely, the premise you lose weight when you skip a meal and exercise after 2 hours on an empty stomach, does not mention that the bodies automatic reaction is to cannibalize your muscle tissue first because your fat is your ultimate storage for famine use only. Your body will burn in the absence of food the energy it finds from your muscles, bones then it will resort to your fat stores. Unfortunately this will qualify as yoyo dieting and your body will think it's starving and it will store MORE fat! Just what every dieter needs. The singular silver lining is the supplements they up-sell you will assist in burning fat because it stimulates the hormones that trigger fat burn, but they make it sound like you will still lose weight but mislead on what will burn... I would not recommend this fad diet.
fascinating info on food myths and facts, what i learned... workout BEFORE you eat and it will have much better results, makes sense if you think about it.
