well-written Britishness of the whole affair recalls Adam Hall’s Quiller books.
This is the third in the series. First published in the UK in 1973. US publication in 1974.

Part secret agent, part private eye, and part idiot, this book was interesting, but not terribly. There is plenty of suspense and action. I would have rated it higher, but the main character, Philis, kept making decisions that weren't necessary or were very stupid. I just couldn't see him surviving as a secret agent or a PI.
