The book Ms. Lagrange Is Strange is about AJ and his friends meeting the new weird lunch lady and AJ eating his vegetables. In the beginning of the book Mrs. Mcgillicuddy, the old lunch lady came out her office to tell the kids to be quiet but when she slipped on a puddle of apple juice spilled by AJ. When she got up she started saying “ I can take it anymore I quit!” She took of her Apron and her gloves and left the room. But AJ and the gang were worried that the lunch lady quit. A. J. hates school and vegetables until a strange lunch lady from France comes to his school and begins to change things.

The adults at A. J.'s school are all a little bit wacky which might appeal to young readers, especially young boys.

Dan Gutman is a Genius. This is a great book. You should read it too.

I like this book because it was very funny. Spoiler Alert my favorite part was when Aj finds out that Ms. Lagrange was not a monster. I have no favorite character. I would recommend this book because there are mysteries to solve.

This one was really funny; lots of laugh-out-loud moments.

Pretty funny. I totally understand AJ's reluctance when it came to Ms. LaGrange's escargot. Trying something odd in your culture that is normal in another can be really scary.

This was a silly and funny book. There was a kid who hated school and in the school something weird is going on.

This is a decent early chapter book series. Each book has a bit of humor and a relatable setting and characters that make them easy for students to engage with.

Well let's start with AJ who hate's school and vegetable, why was it so hard for him to eat one pea. I understand AJ not likeing vegetable because it's hard for me too, but come on one pea that's not hard. Why do they call their cafeteria the vomitorium that's gross, I wouldn't want to eat in there. When Ms.LaGrange came she decorated the vomitorium to look like a fancy resturant, with tables cloth, fake candles and the lights turned down low like they do in France where she's from. I think that w ...more

The Weird School series is a seemingly never-ending saga of kids enduring elementary school life that gets odder and ways I personally find profound...but then I WAS the guy who in my senior year did a book report on the original English translation of Bambi AND graduated with honors BECAUSE of that damn deer! I'm proud of that, sure, but I may never live that down! In the series, AJ shares, I think, my gritted-teeth response to the BS of school education. He hates school with a passi ...more
I have to say that this is the sort of book I turn my nose up at. My nearly 7 year old daughter had some friends reading the series at school. From what she related to me it seems that the book is full of "funniness" - the kind that is right up elementary school boy alleys. For example sticking carrots up ones nose and then later eating them. We had a great discussion about how these sorts of books are good "palette cleansers" of sorts. Something fun and frivolous between more engaging books. Bo ...more

This easy chapter book is part of the "My Weird School" series. Like most good series, it provided a bit of background at the beginning of the story and throughout the story so that the reader was not lost. This book is the type of book for anyone who might not like school or might find many of the things that the grown-ups at school do to be strange. There is a little bit of mystery -- who is Ms. LaGrange and where did she come from, but it is quickly solved. Black-and-white illustrations are p ...more

Recommends it for: children starting to read chapter books
We started reading the books in the My Weird School series by Dan Gutman and Jim Paillot together during storytime, but our oldest started reading ahead into the series on her own and our youngest seemed to lose interest. So now, I am just reading to catch up with our oldest.

This story features a strange lunch lady, French food, a birthday tea party, and a food fight. It's a short and funny book and our oldest and I had a few laughs talking about the plot. We enjoy these stories and have put th

This is Book #8 in The Weird School Series and it is my second favorite, right after Miss Daisy is Crazy (#1). In this book we meet the new lunch lady, Ms. La Grange, who is French and really encourages the students to try new foods and make healthy choices. But the book is far from "preachy". The reader will try to solve the mystery of the writing in the mashed potatoes (YAWYE) and they will also enjoy the "B plot". The School was named many years ago for a former teacher and now the students a ...more

A.J. and Andrea cause a little mishap in the lunchroom, AKA the vomitorium, which causes the school lunch lady to quit. The new lunch lady, Ms. LaGrange is French and very strange. She tries to get A.J. to eat his vegetables.

Andreas mom makes her invite A.J. to her birthday party. A.J.'s mom makes him go.

Very funny 2nd grade book. I don't recommend you let 2nd graders read it as it may warp them for life.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

Ensimmäiset osat tälle jaksoi vielä hymyillä, mutta mikäpä vitsi ei kuluisi käytössä. Helppoa helppolukuista vasta lukemaan oppineille kuitenkin. Hieman huumoria, kohtalaisesti kohellusta ja sitä rataa.

Another fun-filled adventure for the "My Weird School" gang by Dan Gutman. This time, the lunch lady has abandoned her job and a new lunch lady must be found. Ms. LaGrange takes the job and brings along her "French" cuisine and French accent.
