This was a short and sweet novella that focuses on the lives of two people who meet for one night and end up being entwined through different facets.

Owen is starting a new job in a new town after basically being kicked out of his former job where his ex-gf (his boss's daughter) refused to accept their breakup and made-up accusations about him about being abusive and violent.

Owen, however, falls back into familiar territory when he ends up having a drunk ONS with a beautiful girl who turns out to be his new chief's daughter.

Well - I have to say the funniest part was when he was avoiding her at all costs throughout the upcoming weeks. The fact that his neighbor’s all thought he was in the witness protection program because of his odd behavior.

Cece finds out she is pregnant and can't find the father until he shows up at her door and they both come to terms with what has happened, and both take a big step in trusting one another and moving forward with this unexpected surprise.

They fall into a simple routine and get to know one another while falling for each other.... though one issue stands in the way and that’s her dad not knowing as he made it clear nobody messes with his daughter.

The way her dad basically could tell someone from the fire department was dating her was cute as he was not angry at all and expected it.

Owen was a stand up guy and he really was all about her from the moment he met her but his fears about repeating past mistakes got to him in the beginning and he did make up for it after she revealed she was pregnant….he was overall a great guy who just had a few missteps.

Overall, this was fun and nothing too serious.

This book was short, sweet, and steamy! 😍

Owen recently moved from his other firehouse to start fresh and his boss gave him two rules:

1. No drama
2. No dating my daughter

He ended up breaking both rules when he runs into Cece at a bar one night. They have a few drinks and end up back at her place to spend the night together. The next morning, Owen realizes Cece is his chief’s daughter and tries to avoid her from then on. What Cece doesn’t expect is a few weeks later to get a positive pregnancy test. When Cece tells Owen about the pregnancy, he steps up and is there for her every step of the way. But Cece doesn’t want to tell her dad yet and that puts Owen in a tough spot.

I loved how Owen was there for Cece through it all and helping her by knowing all her pregnancy diversions and cravings. 🫠 It was cute to see them take their relationship slow until they decide to officially go all in with one another. I loved that each chapter was a certain week of pregnancy and the subtitles at the top were such a cute added touch! 💗

"Because the best things happen when plans go to shit."

This is the newest in Kacie West's sexy spin on nursery rhymes. This one is Little Miss Muffet.

I enjoyed this one. It is a quick read. I really liked Owen. He stepped up and made sure Cece had everything and anything she could want or need. I mean when Cece was worried that she would accidentally wear two different shoes, he said:

"I'll wear two different shoes if you want."

I instantly swooned. He seriously is the perfect book boyfriend. Not to mention, he was the only one that the devil incarnate cat, Flame actually liked.

I felt for Cece. She didn't have a mother around growing up so she was worried she wouldn't know how to mother her baby. But everyone around her reassured her. I loved that we got to see Kelly and Jack! Kelly still makes me laugh. Especially at the part about the bird that barfs babies! IYKYK.

But she also had a lot of words of wisdom for Cece and was always there when she needed her.

"We crawl before we walk. You don't need to figure it all out this second, and I'll help"

I felt like the ending was a little rushed. But other than that, this is a good read.

Thank you to Kacie West for this ARC.

This was a fun and cute read! Owen definitely stepped up to the plate and I liked his character a lot. He and Cece took an unexpected situation and really made it work. It was a treat seeing Kelly and Jack from the previous book! The addition of some side characters makes me think that there are books to look forward to in the future!

Loved this one so much, definitely 4,5 stars. Owen was so sweet, a really good man, everything he did was with her in mind. That kind of devotion is so freaking attractive, that man was just goals, seriuosly. Cece was ao funny and trying to make things work, that's not easy but she did it. I loved them together, they made each other better

If you love the tropes, Boss’s daughter, Firefighter 🥵, and surprise pregnancy?? This book is for you!!

I love how it talks about the pregnancy and the journey. Seeing Owen right away accept what’s going on and was committed to Cece and the baby right away. He was so calm and collected. He didn’t back away, he went head on. He was so patient with Cece and you can tell he would do anything for her. He is always taking care of her needs and is such a great support to her. Always asking if she has eaten anything or drinking enough water. Bringing her food at work everyday. 😍😍 Owen is total goals when it comes to a man who cares for his woman and loves his family.

For real i love anything Jenni and Aj write!!!!

Age gap and small town and firefighter???? I was ecstatic and it didn't disappoint tbh!

Owen has my freaking heart, he's the most caring and loving book boyfriend, i loved how calm and collected he was when he heard the news!!!

Cece on the other hand was so scared and confused about it, which is totally normal, but she got on my nerves a few times!!!

It's such a cute, quick, funny with a touch of spice read that i can't recommend it enough 😍

Thank you to Aj & Jenni for the ARC 🙏🏻

This was a fun read! I was expecting not to like it since I’m not the biggest fan of the surprise pregnancy and one night stand tropes. I did like reading how Owen right away stepped up to the plate and was there for Cece. I especially liked how caring he was with her. It was also fun reading how Owen was trying to hide the fact that he got his chief firefighter’s daughter pregnant. I loved the ending and how there was no third act breakup! I also liked how the conversation went with Cece’s father and him knowing about the pregnancy. The only thing I wished for, was the fact that this book was a little bit on the short side and I felt like Cece and Owen needed a little bit more time for them to fall in love with each other.

Read if you like:

Surprised pregnancy
Neighbors to lovers
Boss’s daughter
Swoony hero

Funny, sexy, swoony, and fast-paced!

“Because the best things happen when plans go to sh*t.”

Along Came the Girl is the newest smutty nursery rhyme re-imagining from Kacie West. It is the story of CeCe, Owen, and two little pink lines. If you are looking for a quick read with all the feels this story is perfect for you. Jenni and AJ's writing style together is perfect and they play off each other so well.

I can't wait for their next installment and hope they continue them for a long time.

My Review 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I absolutely loved this book!!! It was all the things you want in a rom/com.

Owen & CeCe are such a great match, she’s focused on work and only work. He’s starting over in small town North Carolina after a bad relationship. But who would have guessed the one girl he has his sights on when she jumps into his lap at the bar would be his captains daughters.

Little miss muffet gets a twist an I laughed so much.

CeCe is just getting her career started but when that stick comes up positive she has to readjust. Only problem is the one she thought maybe could have been more left like a thief in the night.

Thanks to her grumpy cat Flame it brings Owen back to her doorstep. An that’s all it takes. These two can’t deny the attraction.

I loved how sweet Owen is and how he wants to take care of her, so if you looking for some alpha ahole book he’s not it haha an it was a great change.

The side characters are so great also - we get to see more of Jack & Kelly which she’s still just as off the wall funny with her antics. An we get a sneak peak of an Evans brother being one of Owens best friends.

Definitely pick this one up for a fun rom/com quick read.

I love Owen and Cece they are so great! I love this book so much! I devoured this story. Definitely my favorite book from Kacie. What can I say my favorite tropes in one book, age gap, surprise pregnancy and small town romance, it’s absolutely perfect. You are going to laugh really hard with Cece, Kelly and all their occurrences. Best friends goals for sure. Owen is going to make you swoon, he’s the best daddy ever!!! He’s a spider killer and mood swings expert, you are gonna love him. Kacie West is doing an amazing job with these smutty nursery rhyme retelling. I’m loving them so much. Can’t wait for Pete’s book.

Cece and Owen meet and hit it off. They end up having a drunken night together, and when Owen wakes up and realizes that Cece is his boss's daughter, he freaks out and leaves without a word. Cece later finds out she's pregnant and needs to find Owen to tell him, when she finds out that he works for her dad. She tells Owen, and he is very supportive, and they start to get to know each other. They decide to keep it a secret from her dad for a while, which starts to get hard and hard to do. When they finally tell him, they are shocked by his reaction. This story was so cute, and I loved reading it.

Owen is Dreamy!

This is another fun and flirty Novella from these authors. At this stage I’m not sure who’s my favorite couple yet but Owen is a smidge ahead of Jack. This is a quick story of an accidental pregnancy, the boss’s daughter and hot firemen. It’s told with good banter and wit that had me smiling the whole way through. I never take points away for editing, but I was distracted a few times with sentences written in the third person or jumping from one place to another within a sentence. It makes it hard to flow at times. It didn’t hinder my enjoyment of reading because the story was solid. Looking forward to the next one.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. If you've read Tumbling Head Over Heels, then you'll be happy to see Kelly & know that this story follows her friend, Cece. This book is standalone. The book's blurb lets you know what to expect. It's a great unexpected pregnancy third person dual pov romance.

Working in the ER as a physician assistant leaves little room for Cece to let loose & have too much fun. She's well put together & has things in order but, of course, things change after she spends the night with Owen & ends up pregnant. While Cece is worried about how she will do with raising a child, since her mother passed away when she was very young, she still tries to have the best mindset going forward. &, once she's able to tell Owen the news, it's easier for her to feel more confident.

After what happened at his last firehouse, Owen has a plan to avoid drama. When he realizes who Cece is, he is determined to keep his distance until he learns they are expecting. As soon as Owen learns that truth, he doesn't waste any time in doing his best to support Cece in any way he can. His plan to avoid drama disappears as all that begins to matter to him is taking care of Cece & their unborn child.

Although their relationship began because of the one night & the pacing of the story is fast due to it being a novella, I liked how their relationship developed. Though there was still lingering attraction, they didn't jump right into a relationship because of the news that they were going to be parents. They spent time becoming friends first & I really enjoyed seeing Owen respect Cece's wishes while showing her that she wasn't alone. Keeping their relationship a secret was the only real conflict of the story but even that was light. Overall, this novella is one that readers will easily love.

Along Came the Girl
By Gracie York

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)

From the book’s dedication, because I found it shareworthy: To everyone who has had a rough year, remember the best things happen when plans go to sh!t.

I really enjoyed reading this sweet novella. I had to pause a few times to take care of mom duties, but Owen and Cece's story really stuck with me. I loved their families and friends too! After finishing this book, I found out there are two more novellas with some of the same characters, and I can't wait to read them.

"Along Came the Girl" follows Cece, who is scared of spiders and ends up in Owen's arms after spotting one. Owen is new in town, working at the fire department, while Cece has always lived there. A night of drinking leads to a one-night stand that turns into something more when Cece gets pregnant. To make things more complicated, Owen works for Cece's dad, who is the town's fire chief. The plot and setup are just perfect in my opinion.

Owen is the epitome of a perfect man, and you won't find anyone better, even if you searched through endless romance books. When Cece tells him she's pregnant, he steps up right away, taking responsibility and providing everything she needs. Their feelings for each other are there, but they take their time to address them amidst dealing with the pregnancy, keeping it from Cece's dad, and avoiding town gossip.

My favorite character in this book? Kelly. She's an absolute gem and every girl needs a friend like her. Kelly's humor, loyalty to Cece, and love for her boyfriend, Jack, shine through the story. I can't wait to read more about Kelly and Jack in "Tumbling Head Over Heels." I might have to find a way to sneak away and read their book soon!

If you're a fan of AJ Ranney's Half Moon Lake series or Jenni Bara's Boston Revs books, you're going to adore this novella. The collaboration between these two authors resulted in a story that exceeded all expectations. Co-authoring a book seems like a daunting task, but they pulled it off seamlessly, creating a perfect blend of their writing styles.

Owen McKinley is sitting in front of his new fire chief trying to not be disappointed that he is basically starting over. His goal had been to be the first fire chief in Richmond under the age of forty and it was within his grasp until daddy's princess snapped her fingers.

Now he is in a small town in North Carolina starting over after the drama and chaos of the last six months when the woman he had been dating didn't take the news well that there was no future in their relationship.

Cece had been dragged out for a night of fun and dancing with her best friend Kelly and her boyfriend. Kelly told her she needed to have some fun and get out of her head. Cece was goal-oriented and was feeling unbalanced since she had just achieved her last high school goal this week when she started her job in the hospital's ER as a physician's assistant.

Just when she was starting to let go and have some fun she sees a spider coming towards her and starts shrieking almost getting tangled in the bar stool as she jumps backward right into the arms of a hard body. The body of a very tall gorgeous man who is now covered in her Margarita.

I absolutely loved this story! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. I have to give you a huge warning though...do not read this in public unless you don't mind bursting out with snorts of laughter in front of strangers because this book is hilarious!

Owen had promised his new boss that there wouldn't be any drama like what he had left in Richmond and he had agreed readily. How was he to know that his drunken one-night-stand would be the fire chief's own daughter?

This book is action-packed and will keep you laughing from cover to cover. Poor Owen is all of the spoilers that I will leave you, but POOR OWEN! I love all the secondary characters and you can read Kelly and Jack's story in Tumbling Head Over Heels.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book put out by this duo!

Another adorably smutty nursery tale retelling, this one of Miss Muffet! (minus the curds and whey, plus a side of extra spiders...)

Along Came the Girl is a really cute one night stand; oops, did we use the condom right?; what do you mean my brand new boss is your dad? story. (TBH I was a little less than thrilled with how drunk they both were during their fateful first night together--we see it from Owen's POV but it's clear neither one of them is clearheaded enough to be doing what they're doing. It accomplishes what they need for the plot to move forward, but condoms are only 90-something percent effective when used under *perfect* lab conditions, so was it really necessary? )

Owen and Cece are absolutely adorable together, even if both Owen and I almost had about 20 heart attacks before they told her dad what was going on. For a guy who wasn't interested in anything permanent anytime soon--a previous relationship went very, very bad--he sure went awful fast from mind-his-own-business bachelor to bringing Cece meals on every shift and fixing all the stuff at her apartment that needed fixing, not that neither of us is complaining. ;)

An absolutely adorable ending, with fun little tie-ins to other books by pseudonym Kacie and IRL authors Jenni Bara and AJ Ranney, this one can absolutely work as a standalone. I'm still not sure how I feel about the fictional author from Jenni's books (Kacie) writing the "real" people she knows (ie Evans boys/Metro players) into her fiction, though...not that it's going to stop me from reading and enjoying them, mind you, it's just odd.

I can’t stop smiling and gushing over Owen and Cece’s story. Damn cute I tell you 🫠🥹

This book is short, easy to read and soo perfect!

Owen is our new in town, sexy firefighter, who had a one-night stand with Cece on a bar night and was horrified to find out Cece being his boss’s daughter the next morning.

It was so fun to read how he tried to avoid her like a pest in spite of being neighbors xD

Owen being a cinnamon roll, he accepted Cece’s sudden news of her being pregnant with his child and the way he handled every damn thing to take care of Cece and his future kid was sooo cute to read. I was literally smiling throughout the whole plot!
🥹🫠

The banter between them had me laughing. This book has every thing you need for a short romance, including a perfect touch of spice 😮‍💨😳🫣

I loved how their friendship developed from a one-night stand to navigating how to co-parent and becoming something more, with their growing attraction towards each other!

Flame, the devil cat was a cute addition to the plot. It was hilarious to watch the cat purring to Owen and making Cece's life hell 😂

I fell in love with Owen and he’s definitely a perfect book boyfriend.
This book was a light read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

If you’re looking for a cute rom com, then this is the perfect book for you <3333

Firefighter Owen McKinley recently moved to the small town of Half Moon Lake to start a new job after drama with his ex-girlfriend created an uncomfortable situation for him at his old firehouse. He's out at the bar with his new co-workers one night when a beautiful girl spills her drink on him, frightened by the spider that just landed on her table. Despite the awkward introduction, Owen and Cece hit it off and end up spending the night together. The next morning, Owen wakes up first and notices that several of the pictures hanging on Cece's wall include a familiar face: his new boss, who made it very clear that his daughter is off limits. He panics and leaves before she wakes up. Six weeks later, Cece is panicking too when she realizes that her night with Owen had unexpected consequences and she has no idea how to get in touch with him. That is, until her dad sends him to get her mischievous cat down from a tree...

I loved this funny, sweet, and perfectly steamy story! Cece and Owen may have fallen fast for each other, but they fell hard, and I really liked them as a couple. Their only major problem was Cece's fear of telling her father about Owen and the baby, though I kind of understood where she was coming from. It had been just her and her dad for most of her life, and I can't blame her for not wanting to risk damaging that relationship by revealing that she was involved with one of his firefighters. Their efforts to hide from her dad had me laughing more than once, however. I don't think Owen will ever look at a shower curtain the same way again!

I highly recommend "Along Came the Girl" for all romantic comedy fans and look forward to whatever the authors come up with next.

You can always count on Jenni and AJ aka Kaci West to deliver a story that you are unable to put down. Along Came the Girl is one of those books. I mean who doesn't love books where the girl is the boss's daughter, and a guy trying to stay away from the drama and ends up right in the middle of it plus add in the age-gap trope and a hor firefighter and you have yourself a five-star book. This book was such a joy to read and was one that I could not put down.
Owen has moved away from the drama that had his life turned upside down and is now wanting to live drama free. Starting his new job at the firehouse has him excited. Too much booze. a very sexy woman, Cece, aka Little Miss Muffet, and a one-night stand found him right in the middle of the drama. Finding out that she is the chief's daughter has him running in the opposite direction, the only problem is that they live in a small town and he can't keep hiding forever. Cece gets some surprising news that throws a wrench in her life. This is where Owen becomes even more swoon-worthy. He takes his responsibility seriously, is sometimes a little overprotective, and wants to be there. Friendship turns into something more and we see how their love develops.
I highly recommend picking up Along Came the Girl. The storyline was terrific and the relationship that developed between the two of them was sweet. An added bonus was the chapter titles were funny, cute and had me enjoying the chapters just a little more.

I have been reading more MM romance than MF romance lately. However, I do still love a good MF romance and have quite a few authors that I enjoy reading Kacie West among them. If you have never read a Kacie West story, you are in for a treat! They (Jenni & AJ) have taken nursery rhymes and put an adult twist on them. Starting with Goldilocks, Jack and Jill, and now Little Miss Muffet.

Owen has moved to Half Moon Lake to start anew. His former life in Richmond exploded when he ex-girlfriend and the Chief’s daughter decided to ruin his life by spreading lies about him. Chief Thompson only has a few rules: no drama and don’t mess with his daughter. How was Owen to know that the gorgeous, sexy blonde was the Chief’s daughter? After a night of big fun, what is Owen’s next move? What happens when one night turns into more?

This book is hilarious! I loved the chapter headers. I loved seeing Jack and Kelly again. I loved this story because in some ways it mirrored my own. I feel like this story is a gift. It is lighthearted and fun and yet still brings love and dare I say consequences to the table. This is why I read romance! Characters like Owen and CeCe make me happy. Seeing Danny and Gloria in the epilogue, knowing more is to come and yet not quite knowing what their path will be. There’s so much excitement for the next story. It’s time to find out what happens to Peter Pumpkined Out coming in fall 2023.

This book is such a great quick read. Every book so far by Kacie West has a cutie take on a common nursery rhyme, and this one is no different. After all, what happens when little miss Muffet she sat on her tuffet and had a spider sit down beside her? In this case, she is saved from the spider by a very sexy man that just might be an excellent choice for a one night stand. Well, one night until two pink lines appear on the test.

Owen had to leave his last firehouse because of his ex girlfriend and her relation to the fire chief. He is bound and determined to not repeat the past. One small problem comes about when he sees a few family pictures upon waking from a one night stand with his little miss Muffet.

I loved these two’s story. The go from a one night stand, to needing to navigate soon to be co-parents, to friends to something more. I think one of my favorite parts was actually the chapter titles that followed the weeks of pregnancy and the perfect accuracy of the counting, something that many would overlook the timing of and I just loved that little detail.

What to expect:
*Novella
*Firefighter romance comedy
*Accidental pregnancy
*Bosses daughter

“She was gorgeous. Every bit as beautiful as he remembered.”

If anyone knows me best it’s that I love books that have any type of of pregnancy trope in it. It honestly never fails to entertain me and they get an automatic 5 star rating from me.

The characters both main and the side were so lovable. It’s hard not to love characters that have you smiling at your screen like you’ve just received a text from your crush.

Owen was honestly the sweetest I loved him and the way he treated Cece. I will never get over how he did everything in his power to avoid Cece after he found out they lived right next to each other. Couldn’t stop laughing when Cece realized that he was the guy that the neighbors were talking about that “…doesn’t meet anyone’s eye and runs into his house like his hair is on fire.”

I loved this book so much. Cece and Owen perfectly balanced each other and worked so well together. Their relationship was everything. This was such a short, easy, and entertaining read. Cannot wait to read more books by the authors.

Along Came the Girl was a very sweet, steamy and short book! ✨🌶️🔥

We meet Owen who has recently moved to town to start fresh. There he meet Cece at one of the bars in town and one thing leads to another..

Owen finds out that Cece is the daughter of his fire chief and that dating his daughter is a NO. Owen spends the rest of the days trying to ignore her and move on. It doesn’t help that he lives in the same apartment building as Cece and he can’t seem to get her out of his mind.

Cece finds out that she’s with pregnant with Owen baby after their one night together. She tells Owen and he tells her that he will be there for her and their baby. Cece tells Owen she is not ready to tell her dad and for a little while he is okay with that.

Things become awkward with Cleve’s dad and as the months go on Cece realizes she has to tell him as she can’t hide it anymore.

This story was so sweet and every chapter brought a smile to my face. Owen was so everything Cece needed him to be and more. He was so incredibly understanding of what she needed and never pressure her into anything.

Thank you @kaciewestromance for this ARC in exchange for my honest review! I devoured this book in a few hours and I can’t wait to read more from them! ❤️

I think my biggest issues with Novellas by authors that I really enjoy is that they are NEVER long enough. I know it’s meant to be shorter because it’s a novella but I always want more.

Owen has some trauma with a previous girlfriend, who just happened to be a superior’s daughter, going all scorched earth when he ending things. So when he realizes the next morning that the girl he had an incredible connection with the night before is his new boss’s daughter, his trauma response is to run as fast as he can.

Everything changes when that one night turns into two pink lines. Her dad’s firefighters have always been off limits so when Cece realizes her baby daddy is the new guy & he wants to be involved with the baby and her…she decides she needs a plan before she can tell her dad anything. That’s not ideal for Owen, who thinks to avoid the issues at his last job he needs to be transparent with his boss, but he always gives in to support Cece.

I’m glad the two of them were able to work everything out & that when they tell her dad he is nothing but supportive. This is such a sweet Novella and it sets us up for so many amazing things in the future from A.J.
