About the author

Linda Johansen is a quilt artist, fabric dyer, and author known for her adventurous spirit and inventive approach to textile arts. She began sewing at the age of seven and was making her own clothes by high school, laying the groundwork for a lifelong fascination with fabric. Best known for her eight books on quilting, fabric dyeing, and 3-D projects, Linda continues to inspire readers and makers through her colorful, hands-on methods and experimental mindset.
Under the name Linda’s Latest, she hand-dyes fabrics and creates an array of handcrafted items, including fabric-covered journals, eco-printed wall art, cards, scarves, and floor cloths. While she initially worked with procion dyes, her recent focus has been on eco dyeing, using natural flora—leaves, roots, bark, and more—to create vivid, organic prints, primarily on silk. Driven by curiosity and an unrelenting “what if” mentality, Linda enjoys pushing boundaries, even combining traditional and eco-dyeing techniques to beautiful effect.
She draws inspiration from daily walks with her dogs, gardening, and the local Pacific Northwest environment, where she continually experiments with new materials and processes. While she has largely stepped back from quilting, her passion for fabric and dyeing remains strong. Though not currently working on new publications, Linda's legacy continues through her books and the creativity of artists inspired by her work.
