In A Voice for Animals, Suzana Gartner presents a powerful exploration of the animal rights movement that challenges conventional thinking and highlights the critical need for compassion. Gartner’s work addresses a fundamental question: how can we reconcile the ethical issues surrounding animal welfare with the practices of factory farming that many have resigned as normal?
Gartner’s book is a comprehensive look at how norms and convenience continue to perpetuate the exploitation of animals. Her writing makes it clear that while these practices are often justified as standard procedure, they come at a significant cost to animal welfare.
Gartner’s book is also a thoughtful examination of how we view and treat animals, drawing a powerful parallel between farmed animals and the companion animals we often consider part of our families. Her message is clear: the empathy and respect we extend to dogs and cats should also apply to the animals we have traditionally raised for food. This perspective challenges deeply ingrained norms and encourages readers to reassess their views on animal welfare.
Gartner provides a well-researched, balanced view of the animal rights movement, focusing on education rather than condemnation. Through her clear narrative, she helps readers understand the realities of agriculture without making them feel attacked for their choices.
I am currently doing my own research in animal law, and this book has provided me with a wealth of information that I will use in theory as well as in context for my own research.
A wonderful book that truthfully spells out the horrific situations animals can end up in due to no fault of their own. Interspersed with real life stories, Gartner shows how strong the human-animal connection can be and provides great ideas on how we can each contribute towards making a positive impact.
I truly enjoyed reading this amazing book. Gartner’s compassion for all animals is demonstrated throughout the book. It was raw, eye-opening and emotive all in one. Makes you realize, just how much animals and humans are interconnected and we need them as much as they need us. We really need to be the voice for these poor helpless animals and need to be kinder to these sentient beings
A Voice For Animals is incredibly well-researched and written. It educates on a plethora of animal welfare issues without ever being overwhelming or dull.
