This book is excellent and shows a way forward for us doing Turkish or Arabic literature which is still stuck sniffing out the authoritarian symptoms of progressive writing from the mid-century. The call for a “readerly suspension of historical outcomes” and productive use of Gramsci’s idea of “transformism” are both vital tools for understanding the literary left. Also, super embarrassed I’d never heard of MN Roy before.
