This is a really cute book. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is sweet. In the story, Little Bear doesn't want to eat his porridge. When Mommy Bear puts it out on a tree stump it disappears. Legend has it that Old Scary Bear got it. Day after day, the same thing happens. Then one night, Little Bear has a nightmare in which Old Scary Bear is chasing after him for his porridge. The next day, Little Bear eats all of his porridge. That afternoon, Little Bear and the rest of his family find out who Old Scary Bear really is. This book is an AR Level 3.8.

An interesting sequel (or perhaps prequel) to "Goldilocks and the three bears," this story is about a little bear who doesn't like his porridge and the lengths his family goes to encouraging him to eat it. It's a fun tale, with softly drawn watercolor illustrations that are cute and go nicely with the story. Our girls enjoyed this book.
In this book a little bear named Little Bear does not like porridge so Mommy Bear, Little Bear, and Daddy Bear put the porridge on an old stump for Old Scary Bear, but Little Bear, Mommy Bear, and Daddy Bear figure out that Old Scary Bear isn't a Bear. They figure out that Old Scary Bear is just a bunch of animals who eat porridge.

I don't allow my child to say he hates things, especially if he hasn't tried it, so it's hard to read a book that uses words that aren't apropriate to use in our home. For that reason I didn't love this book for my 4-year-old.
This book was so adorable!! I really enjoyed Little Bear. This book is wonderful to read to picky little eaters and readers. They just might learn a lesson or two from Old Scary Bear. =)
The bear is a picky eater and does not want to try porridge. Children can learn that it is okay to get out of comfort zone. They might end up liking what they were afraid to try.
A good first read for young readers in key stage one. This book is good for this age range because it is full of repetitive phrases like who’s been eating my porridge and old scary bear.
