Shane Purdy is a college graduate with a Bachelors in Computer Science. At a young age he became fascinated with Fantasy books after reading the Wereworld series by Curtis Jobling, which led to a love of reading that continues to this day.

When he was younger you could almost always find him with a book in his hand (when he wasn’t busy with Band activities that is). As he got older, he started reading online webnovels as well. In June of 2021, after reading thousands of books, he decided to take the plunge and write a book of his own, starting with his first series, Dungeon from the Void.

He writes both high and low progression fantasy novels of varying genres, including Dungeon Core, LitRPG, Cultivation, Sci-Fi and more.

He does not use any sort of social media for his books other than Reddit, he has no Facebook pages, and his Facebook account is private and not public. Therefore if anyone finds public Facebook or other social media accounts outside of Reddit or Discord claiming to be him, they are fake.

While I felt that the story was rushed at times, I was deeply into it. I wanted to spend the whole day just reading.

After a brief setup, Nathan is transported to a supposedly desolate land of death – the end result of a battle between S-ranked mages. Instead of being swarmed by zombies, he gets a chance to power-up his skills while having his unique constitution altered once more.

It's always fun to watch powerful heroes be underestimated by arrogant ass-hats. So when Nathan stops hiding his attributes, the local city leaders line up to be humbled.

I was a little disturbed by how casually the protagonist experimented on animals to understand his magic. I think we're supposed to forgive him because the other mages resort to human test subjects. I'd have thought Nathan would have more empathy, given that he himself was a test subject twice over by that point. Oh well, you can't have everything.

This poor kid finally gets a little respect after he dies

And dies and dies or should I say died as he was experimented on already by an S class space magician, near the top of the mortal power scale.
After rushing through more of his training at the Academy, the Doctor decides he needs to relocate him and hide him from his nation’s magicians who would study him for his immortality. The Doctor doesn’t like to share his experiments.
So he fakes Nathan’s death and drops him in the kingdom of the fallen, the former land of a dead class S death magician… whose death may not have been as final as was thought centuries ago. He will both help and experiment on Nathan as well once freed from his prison.
Nathan spends some time there before the former king of this island escapes his prison and oddly does him a favor or three.
Then Nathan is fleeing and trying to find a place to live and work on his magic before the Doctor can find him again. Meanwhile the Doctor has his parents hostage and is leading a war on the mainland where Nathan came from.
A new land, time for a new Nathan, no matter what he really thought he wanted, he will have to accept and adapt to his new circumstances and freedom.

This gets a 4 as it was a decent read, but it seems to have lost direction/purpose. The most immediate take-away was that the MC is boring and apathetic, but there are signs by the end that he's starting to re-engage.

Overall though, where is this going? Right now it looks like an escalating series of fights against stronger magicians, but we know how that's going to turn out. Minor spoiler follows.

If the whole idea is that he is unchangeable, how did the mutagen change him? I know some explanation was given, but it doesn't work with the main concept. Also, other than the fact that he (sort of?) misses his friends and family, there is every reason for him to make an arrangement with the lich king and stay where he is. The "Doctor" can't get to him, and the old king needs someone to talk to. Anyway, I guess we'll see where, if anywhere, this goes.

Things certainly developed in a much different way than I had expected

Nathan’s life has turned so completely upside down! Does he have the capacity to reach S level? Somehow I don’t doubt that he will see his friends again, and be reunited with his parents, but what will be the price? And how will they react to the changes he’s experienced?

Also, now that Adalwolf is free, why isn’t he taking a more active role in the kingdom? Or has he given up on that to be a pure researcher? And will he take an active role in things if his new experiment subject is kidnapped by his own vassals?

young traumatized and immortal

How would you deal with immortalityin an environment where the mist powerful can die of old age and would have no qualms experimenting on you to get what you have?

Our MC has only had time to try and get stronger to deal with these old monsters.

I’m looking forward to the journey as well as what happens when that is resolved and he has to deal with everyone he’s attached to dying around him - the way the author has depicted his emotional growth is exceptional for the genre.

I love this Author

It's understandable that Nathan feels a disconnection from his friends, family, and new acquaintances. He's definitely traumatized, and lives knowing he can't die. That is a profound phrase. He doesn't think "I won't die." It's always can't, which implies a desire. At least that's how I found the story. I halfway like the one s class he meets. This has a large training arc. I am disappointed in his friends not paying attention to what Nathan says. Also, this story mentions mint ice cream enough that know want some.

Another good read!

The progression of the MC feels natural, not rushed and victim to plot armor. He works hard for his advancement(s), and he’s starting to poke at the idea of immortality, going so far as to risk escalating dangers to see if there is anything at all that could kill him. His changes in book 2 are interesting. He’s clearly maturing and seeing the world and himself much differently. Also, the fallen monarch from a world thought long gone happens to be my favorite character. Plenty of action and progression. A definite 5/5 series so far!

This was a good read

This was really good! I felt like the character in the first book we way to introspective. Like over the top but this was a nice balance between having a personality/ and not talking about having a personality. It was paced well and got to see decent character development that was essentially missing from the first book. The reader actually gets a decent story with some great action. I look forward to the next book and see how the doctor comes into Play.

Shane Purdy as a younger author strikes a worthy balance in novel length and development of this stories arc in the second novel for The Undying Magician.
It seems the humanity of the hero may be in doubt as the interests of his adversaries or allies force change for survival.
A very enjoyable read and look forward to the next installment:-)

The Undying Magician

Wonderful read. Just the right amount of intrigue to the story to keep readers turning the pages. The ending was great but Nathan seemed to be a bit naive about the different situations he gets himself into without fully comprehending everything about himself. At the same time I understand his choices. Waiting for the next book to come out.

Excellent 2nd installment!

The 1st book felt a bit slow. This one definitely made up for that! The pacing of the series has really picked up. Although the protagonist is very languid in nature and not easily excited, which also affects the feel of the book, a lot of things happen. Looking forward to the next installment!

Good read and a good adventure

I just wamt to say that this was a great adventure, but I felt like the story was lacking, something to push me to read more. I liked the experimentation and self trials that the MC goes through and what he does to himself. The magic progression was a little bland but maybe better in the next books.

Okay, if a bit tepid.

A bit pivot from the previous book. One which leaves you wondering what the point is. This book is okay, but it really seems to lack any direction. This is mostly due to the ambivalent main character.

Going nowhere

I dont know the story just seems forced. If nothing could affect him why suddenly with no real explanation is death miasma able to affect him. Turning him into a vampire was just too much its lame. To bad story had potential

Veers into left field and hangs put for fun.

This story rapidly went sideways from anything I was expecting, then follows a couple rabbit trails, before finally just turning into a jolly romp. It was an absolute blast!

Kingdom of the fallen book 2

This book was as entertaining as the first one. I liked the fast-paced action. The character development is neat. The plot is pretty good. Cannot wait for the third book.

Changed direction

The text has really gone in a different direction from the last book. Maybe it was my expectation, but there were much more limited interactions in this one. What I had like about the first book wast the interactions which are lacking here.

Nice followup....ok so when is next one.

Want to continue the journey.
Interesting story, even if not the deepest of plots.
Keeps my interest.
The MC is still growing, and not a whiner, except in his head occasionally, which is true of us all.

A very odd change of direction. Now he lives in a cave and it’s a base-building story? He gets up to some pretty unpleasant stuff without the veneer of civilisation his friends gave him, and I’m not really inclined to read any more about him. Self-centred little bugger.

Excellent

Simply put. If you like the first one, you'll probably like this one. I enjoy seeing how the MC evolves as a character. Especially, considering the metric ton of crap that's been heaped on him.

Highly recommended.

Really great, fun addition to this series!

Really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, logical plot lines, great main character and just the right amount of dialogue and action to keep it fast-paced and crisp reading. Great addition to the series, can't wait to read book three!

It's good

Just finished. It's good. I'm enjoying the character as he basically just tries to be left alone. It's good to see him start to claim emotions for almost the first time in the series.

Read this series.

Very interesting concept of being immortal and how a person handles it. How does someone immortal deal with people that can kill him instantly.

Fun Book

It's Really good read with a great story and that it also expands a fair bit on the setting of the first book. Would definitely recommend reading this series.
