Did Not Finish
September 17, 2008I love suspense, I love legal thrillers, and I usually finish every book I start. State's Evidence struck out on all three.
I can't say whether the book got any better, because I only made it to page nine, the fastest I've ever given up on a book.
You have to understand, though--most of those nine pages were torture. After dismissing a LOT of awkward sentence structure and grammar, and a few cliches, for the sake of giving the novel a chance, it was the gratuitous and horribly-written sex scene eight pages (!) in that finally pushed my exasperation-meter to its maximum setting.
The only positive thing I can say about this book is, it gives me hope for my own chances of getting published. Surely I can do better than this...?

Blockbuster story
I've rather strayed from legal thrillers the past few years, but this book is the perfect reason to become reacquainted with them.
This is a solid plot with great characters and plenty of legalese correctly used. There's a serial killer at work ... or is it two? There are twists and turns and surprises on the road to answering that question.
Beverly Mendoza and Grant Nunez make a great team for the prosecution as well as in their personal lives. Just when they think they have their serial killer where they want him, the complications begin to surface.
If I had proofread this book, I would have corrected 46 errors.
