Written by surgeon and medical director of the New York University Langone Medical Center Weight Management Program, Marina S. Kurian, MD, the 2012, 2nd edition, Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, is slightly dated, yet still an excellent resource for anyone considering bariatric surgery. Make this your first stop, even before selecting you surgeon. Truly, a must read. Then pass it on to your support system; they, and you, will be glad you did.

If you were only going to purchase one book related to WLS, THIS SHOULD BE IT!!
This book answers every question you need to know about weight loss surgery. It is fair to all the surgeries, even talking about the ones that aren't as popular or well known, such as the VBG and DS. It has great recipes that I can't wait to try after my surgery. There are chapters about how to use your tool correctly for the rest of your life... this book is a MUST HAVE for anyone considering any type of weight loss surgery. You will not be sorry by buying this book. Even if you have done years of research and made up your mind as to which surgery to get, you will still have use for this book. If you are a newbie, and just learning, this is an AWESOME tool that will lead you in the right direction.

I feel informed!

I’ve never read a Dummies book before, but this one well exceeded my expectations. It was very well written, abs although the topic isn’t exactly thrilling, I was never bored. The details of the topic went far beyond what I was expecting to find and I feel that I am armed with invaluable information now. Highly recommend to anyone considering weight loss surgery.

You wouldn't immediately think of the For Dummies... series as the best and most thorough source of information on WLS but it is. If you are considering it, or have already had it and still have questions, I highly suggest this book.

If you are contemplating bariatric surgery, this is a “Must Read” book. It offers a lot of information to sort out the questions involved in the decision making process of surgery as well as helpful advice for recovery and after surgery life.

I love this book..... It's been a decade since my surgery, but this was so helpful!!! I think anyone thinking of getting it should read this first though, life doesn't magically change just because you are smaller!!! So make sure that it isn't a choice based on looks!!! It should be a health option for people who can't lose weight and will die unless that happens. I wish I had done it through WW.

I'm sure I will pour over this book several more times. It includes recipes, questions to ask your surgeon, lists of foods to avoid, list of items to bring to the hospital...pretty much covers WLS from A to Z.

Good information in this book but does not discuss the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy except on one page. The new edition I believe discusses that surgery. There are some good recipes in this one that I will definitely have to try.
