What an interesting book. This was published right at the beginning of 1943 in collaboration with Shostakovich's aunt, who was living in Chicago, amidst all of the hoopla surrounding Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony. I think it was rushed off to print. It is a very simple, very straightforward account of the history of Shostakovich's family, which provides a nice background for the letters to his mother as I read them translated in Shostakovich and His World.
