Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasures, magical beasts, and even other men. But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam. Those who do pass gain access to restricted areas, amazing stores of information, and the right to call themselves Hunters.

Eh... I enjoy the series in general, but this particular volume was just okay. Dealing with the fallout from the hunter challenge finale in the previous book, and then stalling for a bit with some silly challenges the characters have to go through before they can go on with their adventure. A bit too much was borrowed from Dragon Ball here, too, like wearing heavy vests for training to get stronger, and the several-month gap for other characters to train and do their thing before they all meet a ...more

Let me tell you something about Killua Zoldyck.

He's a pretty little monster who is like aged 12 but then again he's a motherfu*kin beast. All you must know about him is that he is a talented baby assassin who just so isn't very fond of going round killing people. He attacks with his bare hands or his yo-yo (that's how badass the kid is). I keep saying kid but he ain't no ordinary one. His family are the Zoldycks who are this pretty cool family of assassins. The best assassins. His brothers are

The Hunter exam arc wrapped up pretty well, giving Killua more nuance than your typical Hiei/ Vegeta type of character. It also transitioned smoothly into the next arc. It did kinda of stumble a bit with pointless exposition about how this world's versions of phones and the internet work. Plus the stuff with Killua's brother didn't amount to anything, so much of this volume felt like a waste of time that didn't do much for the overarching story and offered little value in and of itself.

This Vol. 5 is a little bit serious... but I like it, this atmosphere.

Best volume so far. I'd say that it was so intense, but that brings KAITO's Double Rainbow PV and song to my head, so instead I guess it was... serious? Haha, I'm glad nearly all of this was on the Zoldyck family arc. It's one of my favourites, so it's good to see that it wasn't really fast--it's a lot quicker paced than the original anime, but the original anime just seems to be slow but amazing at the same time with fillers everywhere that don't look like fillers, but it doesn't rush. It was tempting to rate this particular volume low. Nothing too exciting or adventurous happens here. There's insight into the characters, new and existing, that steers things close to the edge. My favorite bit is with the doorkeeper. Just a wise old man trying to guide some wayward people and help a member of the family he is in service to.

Forgiving that the dog's name is Mike we were given a beautiful scene here. Gon fully expects a wild beast to be approachable, however it is the Zoldyck's

No hubo muchos combates

For a "transition volume," this is some great stuff.

- We get a little more info on Gon's dad, Ging, which is that he is too important to know about.

- Illumi is friggin' creepy, perhaps more so than Hisoka. Those dead eyes and dark intentions (shudders). He won't be relevant again for a long time, but he almost has to become a major villain at some point.

- Gon is the best. You just can't help but root for the little hero. Even his stubbornness trying to reach the mansion is endearing.

Killua's family is a really tough crowd to please. Thankfully he made friends like Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio who are stubborn as can be. Gon gets himself beaten up pretty badly just to get in touch with Killua after the Hunter Exam and his friends are there to support him all the way through it. If anything, the Hunter Exam didn't just grant the characters their licenses but a loyal friendship between each other. Gon is able to find out more info about his dad which is a step closer to accomplis ...more

We begin to get hints of just how far Gon and company have come and how far they might yet go. The test is ostensibly over--the characters that remain have been designated hunters. Gon gets some of his first hints about his father.

So.. the story keeps getting better but the execution of the events and the illustrations keep getting more and more simplistic (?); it gets to you after a while of noticing... :|

Me gustó el final del arco del examen, en el resto del manga con el arco de la familia de killua no me gustó debido a que lo resumen demasiado.

Gon is told about the events of the Hunter exam. Kurapika and Hisoka fought, both getting injured in the fight. Hisoka whispers something to Kurapika and withdraws from the fight, making Kurapika the winner. Pokkuru and Hanzo fight, Hanzo wins. Killua withdraws from his first match against Pokkuru, wanting a stronger opponent. Hisoka beats up Bodoro, whispers something to him, and Bodoro admits defeat. Saya akhirna dikasi komik ori berbahasa Jepang oleh editorna (setelah merayu-rayu ehehehe~) :p :p :p
Jujur, saya awalna kira bahasa komik ini bakal agak susah. Ternyata gak terlalu, biasa aja :|

Now that we have met Illumi, we know Killua is terrified of him, and that the Zoldyks may be a bit weird. Killua is so brainwashed, he ends up failing the Hunter exam and going back home. In order to bring him back, Gon and co. travel to the Zoldyk estate and are treated to some awesome new characters and a particularly awesome and vicious guard dog. This arc is fun, but really just gets me super excited for what's next! Heaven's Arena starts in full swing next volume and I can't wait.

The Hunter Examinations come to a close, and young Gon wakes up to realize that all but one of his friends has passed the test. After falling unconscious for a day the newly minted hunter learns that his friend Killua had been disqualified from the examination after killing a fellow contestant after being goaded into it by his older brother, Illumi. Gon is upset to learn that Killua had agreed to return to the family compound, and after a brief discussion decide to track him down, alongside Kur ...more
