A Scream Full of Ghosts

Jane Nightshade updates the traditional Victorian ghost story for the age of the Internet in her debut collection of stories, A Scream Full of Ghosts. With 12 terrifying paranormal tales, there is a haunting story for every lover of the macabre.
A young couple trying to figure out why the hardwood floors in their brand-new tract house appear to be an unemployed single mom who cancels her home meals subscription service but can't get rid of the delivery man; a couple of YouTubers whose plans to make a viral video go darkly awry; and a jilted young lawyer who finally finds the perfect woman, except that there's something terribly wrong with one of her arms. These and other ghostly delights are just a few shuddery pages away in A Scream Full of Ghosts.

What an excellent collection of 12 ghost stories here. The Beekeeper's House explains to you why bees attack, The Devil Winds lead to murder, Hangwood is the story of why it is important to heed the past, The Stone Wife (one of my favorites) is about a woman from the cemetery, The Brotherhood of the Traveling Thing (another absolute highlight) features a not completely waxen Wild West outlaw, Footdazzle presents new shoes on a dead man's feet, Red Onion makes you think about the delivery boy next time your order something, The Boo Hag deals with the eerie south, Regeneration Wood (what a stunner) asks the question where the wood of your floor comes from (great reference to Steven Spielberg and Stephen King), The Warriors of the Sand focus on a ghost town with an uncanny scene in a picture, The Blue Green Map of the World evolves an intriguing connection between former wife, maid and present wife. The author did it again and came up with excellent stories. They aren't based on violence, gore or bloodshed but on brilliant story telling with uncanny backstories. Marvelous collection. No fillers, just killers. If you want to have a volume of superb modern ghost stories this is it! Highly recommended.

Loved it! An absolutely marvellous ghost stories collection, a dozen tales of very clever, tightly plotted and beautifully written tales, covering so many different themes and brimming with intelligence and hair-raising creepiness! The collection's strength lies in the author's strong storytelling skills and the riveting ideas on which each story is based. Don't let the term "Victorian" in the synopsis hold you back: the collection includes contemporary settings, the premises are totally accessible, the style ranges from Henry James to Shirley Jackson, and not one story disappoints! It's more than an update: it's a triumph of the creepy, a true delight of the supernatural!

My favorites (though I devoured all the stories) were "The Brotherhood of the Traveling Thing" (what a title! and what a suspenseful story!), "Red Onion" (by far one of the collection's standouts!), and "Regeneration Wood" (I have no words!).

I eagerly recommend it to everyone who enjoys horror! Pick it up NOW! You won't regret it.

Jane Nightshade does a fantastic job in writing this collection of Victorian ghost stories. The overall feel worked in the story and had that feel that I wanted. Each story worked in the supernatural horror genre, I was glad I got to read this and can't wait for more. I thought it worked as a Victorian horror story and glad I was able to read each story.

I had a great time reading Jane Nightshade's new collection of ghost stories titled: "A Scream Full of Ghosts."

Many of the stories are set in California's Gold country and feature several colorful old west characters, but my favorite of the anthology takes place in modern day San Francisco.

"Red Onion" is a bittersweet tale of a young man's love for a struggling single mom that extends beyond the grave.

I had so much fun reading A Scream Full Of Ghosts!!! I brought it along with me on many camping trips this past summer. It got me into the spooky vibes as I read it by the fire and at the lake. I love that there are a few stories set in small California gold country towns and references to beautiful Oregon. Until now, it had been a while since I'd read a good spooky story. This book has a bunch of great classic style ghost stories that have a modern twist. My favorite stories were "The Stone Wife" and "The Red Onion", but they are all good! I can't reccomend A Scream Full Of Ghosts enough!

Jane Nightshade’s stories are as mysterious and spellbinding as the stories of Henry James, Shirley Jackson, and Rod Serling. She provides a realistic contemporary twist. For example, in her short story, Red Onion, a young unemployed single mother is haunted by her meal delivery service and driver, that can’t be stopped. This anthology is a must for anyone who loves great storytelling!

I think this book contained some of the better stories I have read by the author. They felt more thought out and concise. The shivers in this book were good, and I enjoyed the different themes that were presented.

If you want a good ghost story, check these out!
