A very interesting subject that is unfortunately a bit buried under a somewhat confusing theoretical framework and periodic interjections of academic jargon that distracts from an actual examination of Afghan hawala networks. Appears to have been written largely in response to Western efforts to regulate or suppress those networks as a means of curtailing financing for terrorist groups, but spends a lot of time discussing the “legitimacy” of these groups in a way that never really makes clear ...more
