I particularly enjoyed this translation of Inferno and the accompanying notes in the back and the appendix. I had a friend who ended up reading a different translation of this work and did not get as much out of it because of her translation/footnotes. As a Catholic, I really appreciated the references to scripture and the writing of early church doctors such as Aquinas. I've always loved history and mythology so I enjoyed reading how Dante used prevalent and well known mythological creatures or figures symbolically throughout his work.
This is one I will need to read many times, and I would love to understand many more of the literary and historical references, so that I would understand this great work that much more. Maybe it will be a once a year read.
