If you are studying to be a teacher or a translator, then this book is for you.
It is divided into four parts:
Section A: Letters and sounds
Section B: Syllables, words and sentences (mainly stress)
Section C: Conversation
Section D: Reference (the exercises for minimal pairs are very useful!)
The book is ideal for self-study (you will find the keys at the end of the book). You can buy the CDs and the CD-ROM. Thanks to the CDs, you will practise your pronunciation and you will improve your listening skills. In the CD-ROM, there are more exercises and some games.
I used this book when I studied English Phonology at university and it helped me a lot. I'd recommend this book to future teachers and translators, and to anyone who wants to improve his/her pronunciation as well.

The first 20 sections contain the types of sounds, comparing pairs of sounds in each section. This part is a bit more advanced (or confusing) than the elementary level book of this series, in which the pairs of sounds have the same mouth position (one sound is made by "vibrating" the throat and the other one not). Here you could need the basics presented in the elementary level book. The structure of the book is similar, the exercises are really useful, the audios are appropriate and a little bit more challenging, and the games are quite exciting, they require logic reasoning besides language knowledge.

The emphasis is made in the intonation: 40 sections dedicated exclusively to English intonation. A very good training to deal with the advanced level book of the series.
