Neo really liked this book, as he was able to learn about all animals deep in the South American forests. He recognized both the animals being discussed and those hidden to spot alone. Lots to see and do in a short time.

I love the Amazing Animals series by Tony Mitton. Every single one of these books gives you just a few animals to learn something new about (and in fun rhymes and illustrations) and then throws in a few more at the end that make for a good seeking game for the kids (“can you find which page the agouti is hiding on?”). I haven’t actually double checked any of the factual information communicated about the animals, so if any of its incorrect that will be a bummer to me (I prize factual accuracy in all things, even if it’s “just a book for kids”).

This book in the series explores the rainforest and it shows a variety of animals, some you as the adult may have already been familiar with from a trip to the zoo maybe and some you may be learning about for the first time alongside your kiddo. Opportunities of discussion/further learning I discovered while reading it with my kiddo: why do some of these animals live underground or in trees? If the capybara looks like a dog are they related? How are the similar and different? How do some animals avoid being eaten (the armadillo versus the agouti)? How do some animals communicate without using words (the poisonous tree frogs)?

Come along with Rabbit, Mouse, and Bird as they take us on a tour of the South American rainforest! This is a cute rhyming book that will teach young kids all about the different kinds of amazing animals one would expect to see in a rainforest including sloths, howler monkeys, anacondas, and jaguars. There is also a look and find page at the end of the book which kids are sure to love!

This book takes students on a journey they are sure to remember. This book takes children through a rainforest and introduces them to all kinds of different special animals. This book can also be integrated with a science lesson and can help teach students the concept of Rhyme.

What an excellent book to read to my preschoolers who are just starting a rainforest unit this week! Great colored illustrations along with the introduction of just a handful of rainforest animals makes this the perfect book for that age level.
