Hearts of Shadow is a story filled with danger and pain and loss… and through it all winds the strong ties of love. There is so much going on in this story! It’s a post apocalyptic battle to keep the world from going to the gods and demi-gods control. I love Kira Brady’s world building. She has created an alternate world, focusing on Seattle, with Babylonian and Norse mythology, dragons (!), a Native American shape-shifting race, m

I read a lot of paranormal romance novels but it’s rare that I stick with a series after the first book because the world or leading couple didn’t make a lasting impression on me. This is not the case with the Deadglass series. I was so happy when I found out the heroine was going to be Grace ‘Reaper’ Mercer; she definitely stood out from the secondary characters in the first book, Hearts of Darkness. Hearts of Shadows is the second book in the Deadglass series, and it picks up six months later ...more

Leif, is the leader of the dragon shifter clan, and unlike his brother the previous leader, he is not one to lead with fear and slavery. Leif believes he has a code of honor, and he is determined to prove himself, especially to Grace, who despite their slave bond, he desires more from her than the bond. Grace has craved freedom for years, and at first she believes Leif to be exactly like his brother, however she starts to realize how different they are, like fire and ice. With the recent catastr ...more
3.5 for me, I like the first book better. Lief is a dragon shifter and new Regent, unwillingly inheriting the crown from his brother. Grace is his blood slave, she is kick ass and fearless. She hates Lief on sight, she judges him based on her past experiance with his brother. Lief is nice, understanding and very beta. He seduces Grace with kindness and patience, he believes in her and helps her grow stronger as a fighter and a person. Grace is one tough cookie, she is honest and brave with a str ...more

Wow. The last 10-15% of this was outstanding! There was action, tears, and romance. It was perfect. Sadly, the first part if the book was a but slow moving for me. Grace took FOREVER to come with terms over the fact that she wanted Leif, despite him being a dragon.

I can't wait to read the next one about Lucia. I've liked her from the beginning of the series and I have a feeling she will be a force to be reckoned with. It was also nice to see Alice and Brand come back (they're the coupl

Hearts of Shadow is book 2 in The Deadglass series by Kira Brady. Again, this is a very unique story in a wrecked Seattle.

Again, the story-world building is well crafted, and the characters are as well. Grace and Leif are from different backgrounds and mentalities, but learn to overcome dishonor and deceit from previous leadership.

Action and adventure, passion and danger flow seamlessly through this second book. Lots of chaos and mayhem will keep you tied to this story to the very end.
Ah, but
Disjointed, lacking in continuity and coherency. And silly. I do not do well with pop culture books that take themselves too seriously. Even the skilled and talented Xe Sands couldn't save it.

When we last saw Leif Asgard, in Hearts of Darkness he was in dragon form, battling his deranged, meglomaniacal, brother Sven Norgard who had planned to use an ancient relic to unleash a vengeful demi-god on the world. Sven's schemes didn't work out so well, with him ending up dead, but a rogue Kivati, however, managed to rip open the metaphysical wall between the land of the dead and unleash a ghost-pocalypse and Kingu (said demi-god) on the world.

Now, in the aftermath, Leif is Regent of the

I was really looking forward to this book and while I enjoyed it on the whole, it wasn't without its faults.

There are 2 major plotlines and a secondary one: the romance between Leif and Grace, the "Kill Kingu the Big Bad" thing and the sequel bait of Lucia/Corbette.

Out of the 3, I thought the romance would be my favorite. Possessive dragon hero and plucky human heroine = guilty pleasure for the win. But it didn't happen that way. The first interactions between Leif and Grace were int

I will say that I’m sorry that I took so long to read this book. It had the perfect blend of romance (though it took long for them to finally get together), action and storyline.

Grace Mercer is a woman with an incomplete past. Her parents were killed when she was young and then she was unwillingly embroiled into the paranormal world. She is now a woman with a mission; complete her contract as a blood slave and move the heck on.

Leif Asgard never wanted to be a ruler. He is a scientist an

Hearts of Shadows opens with a changed world due to what some nefarious plans gone astray in an attempt for the powerful to become stronger. Those plans left Leif brotherless and also the Dreki Regent. While the position of Regent is desired by many Leif does not want it. He wants his science and his experiments. He wants to continue doing good for the survivors. He wants to make the devastation easier to live in. He also wants to prove he is not the same soulless bastard that his brother was.

Loved the first book in this series and was very excited to read the second. I was not disappointed. It was just as wonderfully character driven as the first book. Lief is a dragon shifter who now finds himself the leader of his people, the Drekar. He is more happy with his inventions and is odd compared to other dragon shifters. His brother's blood slaves were also passed on to Lief, including Grace. Grace has been working hard towards her freedom. She took whatever job Lief's brother, Sven, ga ...more

What I Loved
I love it when books are right in my backyard. In Hearts of Shadow it literally is practically in my backyard. Grace takes a trip to Ravensdale along Maple Valley Highway, which I grew up going to Ravensdale to play soccer and grew up in Maple Valley. Love it! But this magical torn Seattle which all sorts of magical creatures is so exciting and intriguing.

..MiscJoy: I also thought the premise looked fascinating and was excited to get a review copy of Hearts of Shadow. What hooked me in, however, was the author’s writing style. I enjoyed Brady’s voice and approach to the story development. She kept the writing active and the pace moving forward. Even though I had a few quibbles here and there, I can forgive much when the author’s writing style is strong.

I enjoyed how Grace and Leif’s characters developed both individually as well as together. I go

Grace and Leif! When I heard that Brady was pairing up the two of them I was really skeptical. Not only does Grace have to get over the fact that Leif is a dragon, but also that he is the brother of her former keeper/torturer/slaver whatever you want to call him. I really thought those were some huge hurdles, but Brady wrote a strong female character in Grace and she shows that throughout this book. Leif is the brainy, sexy male lead, the guy that when girls say they like nerds, they picture him ...more

I LOVED Hearts of Shadow, by Kira Brady! This second book in the Deadglass Trilogy could not come fast enough for me after Hearts of Darkness. Seattle is being rebuilt by shapeshifters and humans trying to work together to restore the functions of the decimated city which involves using old technologies, evoking an interesting steampunk element. Dragon shapeshifter, Lief, is an admirable hero who takes on the responsibilities for correcting his brother's actions. He falls in love with Grace, an ...more

Grace Mercer is special. She has an ability that kills wraiths. An ability that comes in handy to protect her city. Dragon shifter Leif senses how special Grace really is and will do anything to protector her, even while having to save the world.

Hearts of Shadow is an excellent read that will have you on the edge of your seat. Grace & Leif make a great pair. Loved all the Norse mythology. I especially enjoyed dragon shifter Leif. Sexy!! It's a real shame he is just fiction. Full of paranorma

I read Hearts of Darkness. I swear I did - but when I started this one, Hearts of Shadow, the world didn't feel familiar. So it was all new to me and I liked the dragons and the other shapeshifters. I loved that the mythos was not only Norse but also Babylonian and that Brady married the two so well that I never noticed the well-integrated infodumps of background material and usually that is a huge problem for me. I immediately bought into the world and just loved the story and the characters. T ...more

I really wanted to like this book. Grace is a fighter, who is intelligent and learned things the hard way. Leif is dragon, a supernatural creature who is focused on science and a mystical skeptic. Unfortunately neither character is witty, but they are both very likable. The story moves to slowly. Although it was interesting, it wasn’t enough to keep me fully engaged. I really wanted to know what happened to the leads, but this was not a story I could not put down. It was a story I had to power t ...more

I won this book on Goodreads first reads. I enjoyed the story very much. The characters are well defined and written. The storyline is nicely done, I found myself wanting more. The world building is fantastic, it is post apocalyptic and with dragons, wraiths, shifters and humans. She has a little bit of everything making up this awesome world set in Seattle. I have not read book one yet, but look forward to getting it so I can read it as well as book three. Kira Brady has taken time off from wri ...more

I gave Bec McMaster another chance, and loved Tarnished Knight and Heart of Iron. So, I hope I do not regret trying Kira Brady again.
I read the novella Hearts of Fire, included at the end of Hearts of Shadow, first and liked it.
So, I started Hearts of Shadow with hope that I would not skim simply to finish. There was no skimming. I loved Grace and Leif; their story was difficult to put down. There seemed to be fewer points of view, but there are still a lot of very bad things happening in an ex

This book two of the Deadglass Series adds intrigue to the plot introduced in book one. The romantic focus has moved from Kayla and Hart to Grace Mercer and Leif Asgard. The two fight to restore light and balance to their dark world of humans and shape shifters where the dead walk alongside the living.
As in book one, there continues to be a lot happening. The action does not slow down and the scenes change quickly which creates difficulty in keeping up with the various shape shifters, humans and

Excellent follow up to Brady's debut novel.. I often find the second book in a trilogy to lack luster compared to the first and third books, but that is not the case here. Hearts of Shadow is a fantastic story, rich on its own with complex characters and a strong plot well suited to this fascinating world. I enjoyed it even more than book one. Now I cannot wait for the final installment in the Deadglass trilogy!

Grace Mercer is a great heroine. Her internal conflict is well defined and believable. Leif is not as well defined, other than being a dragon, but in this book, that's almost enough. The world building is well done. This is the first book of Kira Brady's that I've read, so I'm reading these out of order. I think some of the aspects might be clearer if I'd read Hearts of Darkness first. But I was totally able to follow. This is a series I'll keep my eye on.
I liked this entry in the series more than the 1st book. Grace & Leif are a wonderful couple...she rebelliously strong, and he I want one! This was a listen, and I have to say Xe Sands is a fabulous narrator! She's one of the few female narrators whose male voices are spectacular! Oh my...I may just become a fangirl. :)
I enjoyed this second book in the Deadglass trilogy, although I didn't think the story flowed as well as the first book. But the author isn't afraid to kill off likeable secondary characters, and the way this book ends lets the reader know that there are likely to be more apocalyptic battles to come.

I didn't love it as much as book one but it's a legit follow up. Grace is a believable heroine. Her past is dark and painful but she is a fighter. Though not born to be one, circumstances force her to bargain with the devil. He is gone from her life but the scars remain along with his brother. The Spyglass world building is exceptional UF. I am a series fan.

The .5 novella and the first of the Trilogy I thought were weak. BUT! this book was amazing and I'm not sure if I would have appreciated it nearly so much without all the back story from the first two... so given that you can't use 350 pages as a prologue this is a trilogy I would recommend. On to book 3.
