This left me speechless.
At first glance, It looks....less than appealing. Like totally not shiny.
Artwork is like straight out of really old story books. The whole thing leans on Slavic Mythology.

And the way the story is told reminds me of one of those ancient folk tales that old women used to tell little children to frighten them so they would stay out of woods. Only here, the woods are alive. And nothing man made can survive in them, it just gets swallowed up and vanishes without of trace...

I bought this book because I loved Bremen. Although the art is very similar, the books could not be farther apart. This one was way more abstract and the story was not only non-linear, but it felt incomplete and bits of it were irrelevant and ridiculous. I had high expectations and perhaps my own shortcomings keep me from appreciating this book, but i really wanted to like it and I didn't really at all aside from the artwork. I'd still probably buy another tin can forest book because I reeeeally ...more

A beautifully rendered graphic novel with the feel of eastern European folklore. A woman sets out to save her ailing husband by seeking Baba Yaga, a witch who lives in the dark magical world of the forest. Images flow from one to the next in a layout that is both organic and twisted like the woods. Shrouded greens and browns and deathly greys only add to our sense that this is a mysterious and sometimes ominous world. While the individual "panels" have little or no boarders to define them, the t ...more

What's green and Slavic and grim all inside? This book. Gorgeous illustrations and a fragmented, haunting story are combined to provide a reading experience much amplified beyond the brief comic's length. Green suffuses the book, of course, the colour of illness and isolation, but also of peaceful forests and hidden plants. Who is telling the story -- what hallucinations are these, which tales come from the forests of memory -- is a deal struck with the devil worth it? I enjoyed this very much a ...more

Another dark and alluring offering from Tin Can Forest. I'm particularly drawn to this because of my own Slavic roots - Baba Yaga is a polarizing and entrancing figure, good and bad, bad and good, who easily captures the imagination. The art in here is, as per usual, absolutely stunning. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer! ...more

A arte é maravilhosa, a história é - como vários mitos - meio sem pé nem cabeça.
