A Dragon Scorned is part of the Dragons Reborn Series. In this story, Uutta Toivoa is attacked by a dwarven ship. The story started out pretty good and sounded promising, but toward the middle it started to falter. There were many interesting things just barely touched at that I would have liked to read more about. I think it could have done better as a longer, more fleshed out story. The attack on the village was kind of boring, considering that the inhabitants are supposed to have magical powe ...more

When J.C. Harker set out to write a short tale from the Uutta Toivoa series, she took a unique and not altogether empathetic angle. Set in the Third Era, Year 976, this tale follows the pillaging dwarves as they set out to rid the world of the existence of hybrid dragons, called the Draphony. This short story is a really interesting step to a whole new fantasy realm.
The story itself, takes the reader on a journey to an unknown world, where something new is revealed with every sentence.

Pros:
An interesting new approach to the dwarf/dragon relationship
A whole new spectrum of creatures and countries
There is a map that suggests there is really a lot more to be learned about the realm
Dragons! (:D)

Cons:
A bit short (though leaves wanting more)

I thought this book was a fun short story. I would have been happier if it had been a full novel though. It felt rushed because of the shortness of the book. It was a good story though!

A Dragon Scorned is an interesting, but very short, tale that follows an expedition of dwarves on their mission to find a particular island - Uutta Toivoa - populated by "phony" dragons - whom they are sworn to annihilate.

The story is short, but started out strong. The characterization of the dwarves was interesting, especially combined with the questions left unanswered about the world and the dwarves' mission. Why do they hate dragons so much? What have the dragon's done? Further questions ar
