In this picture book featuring unicorns with various skin tones--part of the new Afro Unicorn series--three unicorns are excited about the approaching holiday and collecting stickers for their various acts of kindness. Unique has written a new song for Santa's arrival, but she's worried that it isn't quite ready or good enough. The others support her, and she feels more confident than before, even confident enough to sing for Santa as he distributes presents to be opened later. The book contains a Kindness Countdown Calendar with stickers to be posted every day that readers perform an act of kindness. I like the idea behind this book as well as the positivity and representation, but the plot is a bit skimpy. Still, its intended audience will probably love this slightly-different take on unicorns.

The Afro Unicorns are back and are starting the countdown to Christmas and preparing to welcome Santa. The book even includes a December calendar and stickers readers can use to do their own countdown.

My biggest issue with this book is it seemed like maybe I read it out of order? Like there was an expectation that I has background knowledge of the characters but I didn't.

That could be my fault for not seeing if there were other books. The art and writing was fun otherwise. I think kids would enjoy it for sure!
