The author offered up this book for a review and to be quite honest I wasn't sure I wanted to take it on. I'm not a huge zombie movie fan so I've pretty much stayed away from the genre as if it had an STD. However, I figured I was gonna have to break my zombie cherry some day if I wanted to say that I honestly didn't like the genre and had given it a go. Also, the story is only 30 pages long so I figured "What the hell. It couldn't be too painful." So imagine my surprise when I started reading t ...more

The First Zombies - Book One of the Dead Awakening has a fun beginning with the reader thinking they were thrown into the middle of a story with no background than all of a sudden the TV says "You are dead." That's right our Hero David is a college student who loves playing Zombie Video games. He is stuck with his roommate Mark's girlfriend Gina waiting for Mark to come home from "Studying in the Library." Mark arrives home and orders pizza and that is when the story really starts going with the ...more

Synopsis: A few friends hole up in their dorm room as an outbreak of a rabies like virus is announced. They venture out to rescue more of their fellow college students from the hungry and savage 'infected'.

My Review: I have read books before with undead creatures and characters, vampires, re-animated corpses, etc. but never ventured into the world of full zombie stories. I have to say I absolutely loved this story! Josh Atkins does a fantastic job of sucking you into the suspense and danger fil

Passable story marred by easily avoidable issues

Strictly speaking, the content of this book is not bad at all - decent characters and story. However, I can’t convince myself to move forward through the series (and, in fact, forced myself to finish this) because it’s clear this hasn’t been put through even a basic spell/grammar check, let alone edited - quote/comma basic misplacement, frequent misspellings, no periods at ends of sentences.

These aren’t occasional problems, but constant throughout

Review on blog: Tumbling In Books

How exactly do you review a 30 page story? I don’t really know how but I’m going to give it a try ;)

Even though Dead Awakening was 33 pages only, it was totally AWESOME! You know, I don’t really read about zombies and I tend to avoid them(except Invincible series. Nick Gautier’s sarcasm is just AWESOME!). And I don’t really watch zombies movies either. The give me nightmares(except Residient Evil).

I had a few zombies nightmare and let me tell you this, it wasn’t

I really did enjoy reading The First Zombies. It felt very realistic and that was the number one thing I enjoyed. There were some character flaws that I didn't understand, but think there might be more clarification in later books. The ending was extremely confusing for me and I just didn't understand the little boys part in everything. Overall it was a really great read and I am very glad I got the chance to read it.
