Can a friendship that lasts just an hour be completely perfect?
A year ago, Annie and Bree were best friends, then they graduated high school and it turns out a year is a long time.
When Annie shows up at her best friend's birthday hoping to slip back into the friendship that was, she discovers she's no longer a part of Bree's world and decides to slip out quietly without making a scene.
But a chance encounter on the way out means that sometimes you can find friendship when you least expect it.
Sarah Billington is an Australian writer and editor who likes to write stories with love, laughs, suspense and zombies. Sometimes all in the same story.
She writes predominantly light Young Adult fiction under her name, Sarah Billington, but if you're interested in something a bit darker and scarier she's got some of that for you too.
Sarah loves a variety of random things, which include Swing Dancing, Ice Hockey, fly ball and is a bit obsessive about paranormal investigation shows and channel E!. She has also become known as "the zombie girl" because of her fascination with all things zombie. She doesn't quite know how that happened, but she's going with it.
This was such a short, that it felt more like a chapter of a story but even still, I enjoyed it. It was a pretty damn good chapter.
This short story follows Annie. Annie’s best friend Bree is having a birthday party of sorts and Annie goes. She’s pretty excited about seeing her best friend again because it’s been a while since they had any best friend time and she misses her. But Bree has gone to college and it becomes apparent that she’s pretty much moved on from her friendship with Annie. Annie spends most of the night hanging out by herself and drinking by herself because Bree looks pretty content to hang out with her college friends.
Just when Annie thinks she can’t take anymore, she starts to head out and leave Bree behind once and for all but she ends up sticking around when she spills her drink on one of Bree’s college friends. His name is Skylar and Annie remembers his name from when Bree used to talk to her about her college life. He was the guy that Bree was in love with before she got with her boyfriend that she’s with now. After Annie spills her drink on Skylar, they embark on a night of adventure…and that’s exactly what it was. A one night adventure.
Skylar is going to Japan in the morning and it’s his last night in town and he spends it with a stranger who knows someone he knows. And their night is filled with awesome and I liked it very much. I just wish that it was longer. That it was fleshed out more but for what it was, it was pretty great. I liked Skylar and I liked Annie so overall, this was a cute read.
That One Night is a 30 page New Adult Novella. New Adult is a relatively new genre that deals with protagonists that are 18 years old and above. It Makes us 18+ year olds feel a bit better about crushing on the main protagonists if they're at least of legal age! Because this novel is only 30 pages, you don't expect much plot wise. Annie, the protagonist, bumps into (literally) Skylar and spills a drink all over him on her way out. They find out they have a friend in common, Bree, and he walks her out. This story focuses on the dialogue between them and the Annie's feelings. Bree used to be her best friend but so much has changed. Spending time with a virtual stranger that you feel closer to than your best friend gets you thinking. Also Skylar was such a cutie! He was funny, charming, and a total gentleman. What's wrong then? well, you gotta read this Novella to know about that and its ending! It was a very cute novella and I wished it was turned into an actual novel because the premise of it was adorable! I love Sarah Billington's contemporary novels and I can't wait for more by her!
Whoa. This story was like watching a really short romantic comedy. (This is a good thing just so you know.) It was another short story by Sarah Billington where after reading it i'm like "OMG that was so good. I think I just might read that one more time...right now." Skylar (who might I say sounds super cute) and Annie meet one night at a mutual friends party. As Annie is leaving she runs (literally) into Skylar spilling her beer all over him. When he finds out that she's leaving he asks if he can walk with her. While they are walking they talk and everything is just so damn cute. I loved this. I recommend it so gooooo now and check it out!
