Sheriff Fletcher Harris didn't know how a little girl had ended up at the bus stop, lost and alone, with his name pinned to her shirt, but he damn sure meant to protect her. And he knew only one person with enough love in her heart to help him -- the wife he'd once loved...and let get away.
The beautiful child was a heartbreaking reminder of everything Amanda Harris had lost. But little Shelby also seemed to bring out a new, devastatingly tender side of Fletcher -- a side Amanda could hardly resist. Could it be this little girl lost could help a husband and wife let go of the past and find their heart's desire once more?
Cara Colter was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, surrounded by ranches, but she was always a reluctant city girl. A journalism graduate, she has been making her living with words for her entire adult life. Before published her first romance novel in 1987, she wrote educational materials, newspaper stories, magazine articles and even sermons!
"I am living proof that dreams come true," Cara says. "I am an ordinary person leading an extraordinary life."
Now she lives on a small acreage in British Columbia. She shares her life with her personal hero, Rob, a cat and eight horses. She has three grown children, and already is a granmother.
Ms. Colter is a master at penning tender tearjerkers. As it sadly happens oh so often, Fletcher and Amanda's marriage is torn apart on the death of their child. Now four years after their divorce (six after Tess' death), Fletcher reaches out to Amanda to help him look after an abandoned little girl. I love how Amanda and Fletcher slowly come to realize how to heal their marriage and how their daughter's death has taught them some life lessons that make them stronger and more worthy. It was wonderful watching this wounded man come to terms with the past and realize that Tess' death had given him a compassion and patience for others that he'd lacked before. While this is an intensely emotional read, it also has some truly wonderful fun moments. This is one for the keeper shelf!
I'd just finish reading this book, and I recommended.
