Recommends it for: people interested in the dawn days of the western expansion
Shelves: 2010
An english colony that settled in 1585 and vanished by 1590 in present day N. Carolina leaving only one clue. The word Croatoan carved into a tree. Were they killed by indians, did they die by disease or famine, did they merge with an indian tribe (perhaps the Croatoan indians)? Noone knows.

An interesting and light read. Particulary enjoyed the english men's first encounters with the indians in 1584.

This is basically just rewritten from Arthur Barlowe's writings.
